You set your own bar of what success looks like and you do everything you know how to reach it. **** A lot of people told me I should settle for applying for an admin position to get my foot in the door for a job in the federal goverment. I was a young, black woman under the age of 30 with no college degree. That’s what others assumed I could get. I know me. I wouldn’t have made it past the year probation because it wasn’t the job I wanted. I waited and I applied for a grade 13 position. And I got it (on my second try). So, a young, black woman who was 28 started her first federal position as a grade 13 doing what she was qualified to do. Now I show others how to do the same. I was told I would be on coumadin (blood thinners) for the rest of my life after surviving a blood clot that went from my ankle to just above my knee (dvt), and pulmonary embolism, clot in the lung.
