Summary: Terry tries to convince his fiancée that he’s not cheating on her… it does not go well
Warnings: angst, haven't finished the show, so might be OOC (although this is technically canon compliant); show was TV-14, no smut here but Terry’s still a major scumbag so... some crotch grabbing and mentions of arousal and infidelity (as well as placating and gaslighting), the sexual harassment lawsuit is mentioned as are the forwarded emails of Officer Marcus in lingerie, reader squeezes his balls and slaps Terry (he deserves worse)
-
You stomped into the Charleston police department precinct. The desk sergeant flagged you back into the bullpen without so much as a word (he knew not to fuck with an angry woman) and you marched right to Terry’s desk.
“What the fuck did you do?” You hissed at your fiancé.
His face morphed into the one he put on whenever he’d fucked up and didn’t want you to be mad at him. “Nothin’, baby, nothin’.” He caressed your arms soothingly, trying to reassure you that everything was absolutely fine.
“Then why am I being questioned by a defense attorney pertaining to a sexual harassment lawsuit you’ve been named in?”
His smile dropped slightly. “What did you say?”
“The truth as I know it, Terry.”
He chuckled to cover up his nervousness. “Darlin’, come on. Let’s talk about this somewhere private.” He took your elbow and you let him lead you to a more private room.
You stood with your arms crossed.
“This lawsuit is bogus.” He told you. “I did not harass anybody.”
“This officer says you did.”
He huffed. “Well, she’s lying. She was always coming on to everyone, flirtin’, drivin’ all the guys crazy on purpose.”
“I have seen how you look at her, Terry.”
“It didn’t mean nothin’, sweets, I promise.” He reached out to touch you but you pulled away from him.
“I saw the way you looked at her a few months back at the bar for your birthday.”
He shrugged sheepishly. “I looked at her, sure…”
“Do you think I’m an idiot, Terry?”
“Of course not.”
“You sent me home that night and then you stayed in that bar with her.”
A small smirk made its way onto his face. “Are you seriously jealous?”
“I expected you home in like… oh, I don’t know… fifteen minutes, maybe. But you didn’t show up for a fucking hour and a half.”
“I was having fun with my friends.” Which wasn’t technically untrue but they’d relocated from the bar. That you didn’t have to know right now, though.
“You left me home all alone.”
“I wanted you to go home and make yourself fresh and pretty for me for when I came home.” He defended himself. “And if I remember correctly, you were very pretty that night… in that lavender slip I got you…” he took a step towards you again.
And you took another step back from him. “I really wish I could believe nothing happened.”
“You really don’t believe me? Come on, darlin’. Look at me and tell me you truly think I could do that to you.”
You couldn’t look him in the eye. “I don’t know, okay? I don’t know anything anymore. You sneak around, you come home at all manner of odd hours. You’re secretive.”
“I’m a homicide detective. I work late. I can’t tell you everything about my work or where I am, come on, you know that.”
“No, see, I called the precinct one night when you said that you were working late there and the sergeant who answered said that you’d stepped out. So I called back half an hour later and you still weren’t there, you hadn’t come back.”
“I was out, yeah, investigating homicides. Crime doesn’t sleep, you know. You can put a GPS chip in my neck if it helps you feel better.”
You frowned. “This isn’t funny, Terry.”
“I’m not laughing. You think I don’t take this relationship seriously. You think I don’t take you seriously.”
“It just seems like… lately… you haven’t been as invested in us as you once were.”
He lifted your left hand to kiss your knuckle. “You still wear my ring, don’t you, baby?” He looked into your eyes.
You sighed and met his gaze. “Yes, I do.”
“You gotta believe I’d never do anything to hurt you.”
“I wish I could. But I have eyes, ears, and a brain.”
He huffed slightly and dropped his hand from yours. “You’re really gonna believe her over me?”
“It’s not just what you’re telling me, Terry. It’s how you act, it’s what you don’t say.”
“You really believe I’ve cheated on you?”
“I don’t know what to believe, okay? I-I’m conflicted.”
“Haven’t I done enough to convince you that I want you?”
“It’s more complicated than just that.”
“Is it?” He crowded you against the wall.
“Terry, come on. We’re at the precinct. Back off, will ya?”
“Why won’t you let me touch you anymore?” He murmured against your ear. “Is it because you think I cheated?”
“Did you?” You asked bluntly.
He did not pull back to look you in the eyes. He kept his lips to your neck. “No.”
“I got tested for STDs the other week.”
He nipped at your neck. “And?”
“The results came back negative.”
“What did I tell you?” His hands caressed your waist. “I’d never put your health at risk, you know that.”
“You could’ve used protection.”
He groaned and settled his forehead on your shoulder. “Babygirl, I swear to God I didn’t put my dick in her at all: condom, no condom.”
“You may go to church every Sunday morning but we both know you don’t believe in God, Terry.”
He chuckled sardonically. “Well I still swear. What do I have to do to prove to you I never fucked her?”
You sighed. “I don’t know that there is anything you can do.”
“My word ain’t enough for ya?” He was getting very frustrated now.
You shook your head. “I’m sorry.” You said softly.
“Maybe my cock’ll be proof enough.”
“Terry-”
“Feel it.” He demanded gruffly. “Feel how hard it is for ya.”
“We are in your precinct.”
“Just cop a feel, come on. Just a little squeeze. No one’ll ever know. There’s no cameras around here.”
“Terry…” you warned.
“Touch.” He pecked your lips. “Me.”
You sighed and cupped his sizable bulge.
He groaned. “Swear to god that’s only for you, baby. Only you get to touch me like this. I’m not with anyone else right now. I’m just with you.”
“You talk a good game.”
“I walk the fucking walk too. Watch this whole lawsuit thing go by just fine.”
“Look at me and tell me you did nothing wrong.”
He looked you dead in the eyes. “I. Did. Nothing. Wrong.”
You sighed. “Is it true she got fired when she complained?”
“Because they were false accusations. Unfounded. Now she’s pissed she didn’t get her way. Her fun got spoiled, so she’s suing the police department.”
“I really don’t want to believe she lied.” You were a firm believer in victim advocacy and not in victim blaming.
“But you know me.” He insisted.
You huffed. “That’s part of my problem.”
“She was a bitch.”
You winched. It was true that you didn’t know her. But you’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt. “And you’re an asshole.”
“But not a cheating one. I’m not stupid.”
“You’re not that smart, though.”
He pouted. “I’m pretty smart.”
“The defense attorney asked me if I was aware of pictures that had been emailed around.”
He stiffened a bit at that. Then his posture slumped. “Well… I-I can explain…”
“A lot’s gonna come to light at trial.”
“Did she… show the pictures to you?”
“She described Officer Marcus in lingerie.”
“S-she sent tho-ohhh!” You squeezed his balls. “Honey, please.” He hissed.
“Fuck. You. McCandless.” You spat in his face.
“Baby, come on. I swear she sent those to me unprompted.”
“Then why did the attorney tell me it was clear that your email was the one that was the forwarder.”
“I-”
“You participated!” You exclaimed. “She claimed they were only for you.”
“But I didn’t want them in the first place!”
“The fuck you didn’t. And then you forwarded them to your buddies! She wasn’t lying about that.”
“Yes, she is! She wanted to be the precinct slut!”
You slapped him across the face. “That doesn’t excuse your participation.”
“Well what did you want me to do?”
“If she was making you truly uncomfortable… you should’ve reported her. But she wasn’t actually making you uncomfortable, was she, Terry?”
“It wasn’t a big deal.”
“So her flirting with everyone, according to you, and driving all the guys crazy, wasn’t a big deal?”
His lie was crumbling before him. “Well… it…”
You held a hand up. “Save it for the trial. I don’t really wanna hear it right now.”
“Baby-” he tried again.
“Don’t “baby” me right now, you son of a bitch.” You snapped at him. You tugged your ring off.
Panic rose within him. “Hey, now, come on. D-don’t go doin’ anythang hasty.”
“The least you could do was be honest with me about all this.” You gritted out with tears in your eyes. “But you couldn’t even be decent enough to do that, could you?”
“I am being honest! Don’t make a mistake, sugar.”
“The only one making a mistake was you when you lied to me and told me you did nothing.” The ring clattered on the ground. “Because now, you have nothing.”
He snatched the ring off the ground and caught your wrist before you could open the door.
You huffed. The audacity of the bitch. “Let go of me, Terry.”
“I’m a weak man, sweetheart.” Well, he was pathetic. “I’m repentant, though.” His hand caressed your wrist.
You yanked your wrist free from his grasp. “Go find another toy to play with, McCandless.”
He let you open the door and exit but followed you closely back out into the precinct bullpen.
“She wasn’t a toy.” He defended.
You turned around quickly to face him. “What was she, then, hmm? A distraction? A shiny bauble? You know what?” You held your hand up. “I don’t want to know. It doesn’t matter. We are done.”
“Don’t be like that, come on, now.” He reached out again for you but you stepped out of his reach again.
“I will act however I feel like acting given the situation.”
“You’re overreacting.”
“I think I’m under reacting, honestly.” You countered. “I should be shouting at you.”
“So shout, but I’m just warning you that your ass is going in a cell for being loud.”
“Not if I calmly exit the premises now and don’t engage with you any further.”
He stood to his full height. “You do that. Just don’t come in here being all disruptive again.”
“I won’t.” You assured him. “Goodbye, Terry.”
His posture slumped infinitesimally so. “A-At least take back your ring.” He held it out to you.
“You can keep that, actually. I don’t need it anymore.”
You swiftly turned on your heels and exited the police precinct. And Terry was left standing there looking like a fucking idiot.
