OC Collective I (Ryslen's)
The memory of crisp air was overridden by the pleasant warmth and humidity when he regained consciousness, the buzzing of electrical lights overpowering his hearing. He wanted to hide, they were so bright and loud, why did everyone use such obnoxious lights..? Everything they used was so annoying. Even the way they walked, it was as if they echoed each movement they could ever make. Purposeful and infuriating all at once.

“He’s waking”
His eyes shot open, pupils dilated for a moment before he grit his teeth. His arms flexed with the need to move, straining against the hard wood of the chair. Allowing himself a brief minute adjust to his surroundings…. the walls were white— so fucking white…
Almost too bright to actually calm him.
God, even the wall pain my eyes…
There were 2 people standing before him, a policeman… who was irritatingly familiar—
and Midnight
Once again, he was confronted with the reality of his situation, he'd been caught. By the heroine he'd sworn to avoid as well…
And—
“Alright.. We'd like to ask you some questions.” The policeman stated, his voice firm, cutting through his thoughts “Ryslen.” Wanna ask me… questions..
Tsukauchi, of course…
He remained silent, jaw locking as he squeezed his eyes shut, hands clenching into painful fists. The excruciating vulnerability of being… caught, of being revealed— of being tied down and watched—
No… take… take it away… no… stop…
The fear was so prominent he almost missed it when Midnight began to speak
She heaved a sigh, dramatically flipping her hair behind her shoulder. “If you refuse to acknowledge us then we'll simply put you to sleep once more.” Look: no— sleep again… A frown encased her lips, a small line of smoke emerging from her forearm, seeping from the thin fabric of her suit and floating in the air, spreading a flower-y, gentle fragrance through the air.
It smelled oddly… nice, actually, now that he wasn’t so in his head about it.
“Well if you do… you won’ get much outta me, will ya’?” He snarked, a mischievous smile reflecting on his features, although there was a slight tremble in his voice, too. Tsukauchi shook his head, sighing and pinching the bridge of his nose, but didn’t comment.
“Not the first time. Won' be a last, get done with it.” The boy huffed, rolling his eyes at the adults. Midnight seemed surprised by the… implications of his statement, taking a moment to turn towards Tsukauchi, the mist seemingly frozen in midair.
“Ryslen?” Tsukauchi questioned.
“Yeah yeah.” Ryslen muttered, lazed and drawing out the words, “Now, I wanna know what you wanna know.”
“If you intend…” I… plan… to be… “...on being petty I have no trouble imprisoning you.” … yes… and, what? Impriso— prison…
“I don' real’ wanna… I'ma be petty, thank you much.” Ryslen huffed, letting his gaze fall onto Midnight.
“Juvie?” Midnight asked, a lilt of confusion to her tone as she quirked a brow. Tsukaushi was quick to respond, not giving Ryslen even a moment to butt in.
“Although Ryslen's only been caught a few times… he’s at an age now where detention centers and a sort of labor work may benefit him.” Tsukauchi stated, not exactly addressing Ryslen– but not ignoring him either— if the continuous glances that were thrown towards the green haired boy were anything to go on, “He has one offense of simple assault, for which he did 5 months in a juvenile detention corrections facility. As well as two offenses of petty theft, where he did 2 months total, and was entered into the foster care system after he completed.”
“Not a first time-r, huh? Shouldn't we…” no “…keep him under better conditions then?” keep me… what..? “...keep him monitored?” Midnight suggested, bringing her hands to her hips, her mouth a thin line, gazing at him like he was hideous, a monster.
A villain
No
“I suggest the same, but we can’t find anything on the boy. It's… as if he doesn't exist— besides the info we have on past offenses and his time in foster care.” Tsukauchi muttered, shaking his head. “And we can't locate his parents, there's nothing on the kid.”
Nothin’... on me… no parents… no family… just—
Ryslen could only swear to himself as they spoke, trying— and failing— to keep up. The two conversed as if he wasn't even there, too fast, too long, not enough breaks to think. Midnight could just ask Ryslen questions and she'd get an answer. The police clearly had enough info on him— and Tsukauchi knew him, it's not like lying would do much, anyways. He could clarify what Ryslen said to be true or false easily.
That would help me too..
If I say the truth I could get my way out of it. Then… half-truths for the situation… Half-truths ain’t wholly fake, it… be harder for them to point out.
But alas, they didn't, and Ryslen missed his— never occurring— chance.
Because of-fucking-course they had to be smart about this.
“Wait? Where are his parents?” Midnight questioned, a grim look on her face… as if she was expecting some shitty, uncaring, drunk or strung-out parents.
Which wouldn't be entirely wrong, but…
“That's the problem. We don't know.” Tsukauchi sighed, “And he won't tell us anything about them, so it's not even like we can track them down.”
“My god…” Midnight muttered, a look of utter disbelief and confusion crossing her face. Her brows furrowed and knitted together. Suddenly, she peered up again, “Wait— why do we need this ma— Ryslen’s… parents?”
Ryslen snorted, his attempt at lightening the mood shot down by a glaring look from the despicable detective. “He's 15. Ideally, a parent or guardian will help put him through the motions of the system, otherwise, it’s left to the police department— which means he’ll get pushed off for a while— at least.”
“What—!?” Midnight all but screeched, voice pitching high in disbelief, “He's fifteen?? Goodness kid, what are you doing?” She gasped, gaze flickering towards Ryslen, perpetual and overpowering. Her lips slightly ajaw and eyes blown wide, pupils shrouding any of the color from her irises.
Ryslen could only remain silent, a glint of anger in his eyes. However, the boy remained quiet.
Tsukauchi sighed— again— shaking his head— again— and turned to Midnight. The detective altered his weight between his feet, arms crossed over his chest ina way that—
Ryslen did not like where this was headed.
“Midnight, I have an idea, come with me.” Tsukauchi stated, motioning towards the door of the room he was forced in. Sparing him a seemingly sympathetic glance, Midnight followed the detective out of the room, leaving Ryslen alone.
Alone was not a good look for the kid.
“Damn… you couldn't just have done it here…?” Ryslen could only sigh, there wasn't much of a choice of getting out of this. They'd probably sentence him to another couple months, threaten him some more. Try rehabilitation for the up-teenth time.
It was pointless, why change his views on life for people that mean nothing to him. That don’t care about him as any more than a threat or danger to their so called innocence. “I can be… nice… but damn, could I have it in return..?”
Ryslen sat uncomfortably in the chair, tied down with ropes that were rubbing his skin raw, arms locked behind the chair, ankles wrapped in rope that looped around the legs of the chair.
“Fuckin’ hate people…” he muttered lowly, closing his eyes. He could tell there was something about this room that was preventing him from using his quirk, it was something embedded in the walls— no doubt. “Can barely tell what… is… Some of… salt…?” Ryslen groaned, “Why the fuck is it salt? Makes no sense.”
Why infuse sodium into the walls? The floors? Hell, the ropes that were rubbing against his shins had sodium interwoven in the fibers. But why? What could abnormal amounts of sodium do to your body? Could it block a quirk? He couldn’t tell how much there was, but the pure… sodium was overwhelming.
No, that doesn't make sense, salt can't mess with something supernatural, it has nothing to work on. It'd be like kicking a rock ‘til it a pebble. To seem sturdy at first, but it breaks down with not noticing it— at least not before it's too late…
He stopped. Of course they put him in here, abnormal sodium levels and abnormal levels of salt can affect cell growth.
They want my quirk to be affected for now, a way to stop my chances of affecting the city. And so I can't really get out.
Ryslen swore silently, seething at his realization. It's too late… His cells were most likely already in a dive down with the amount of exposure, and his quirk wasn't blocked, at least, it… was just muted— although temporarily, it was still infuriating. They'd really caught him.
They did it while I was knocked out too. I would've never stood a chance even when I first woke up. It's already started impacting my body, but they can't keep me in here too long…
So what the hell are they doing? He couldn't even begin to comprehend what their thought process was. To continuously expose him to this sodium level could be fatal, especially if left for an extended period of time. Yet, repeatedly putting him in here would be classified torture, either way they could get in severe trouble if he doesn't get out of this room soon…
The creek of the door snapped him out of his thoughts, the overwhelming knowledge of their plan running through his head. Midnight entered first, then Tsukauchi, who had an…. Almost friendly smile on his face. To say he was creeped out would be an understatement- what the fuck had they spoke about that had them so happy?
“Although we have to do your interrogation…” Still… doing questions…? “...we’ve found a… suitable space for you to stay.” Tsukauchi determined, standing tall, firm in this decision. The way his arms were just oh-so casually tucked into the pockets of his trenchcoat, the way he leaned just slightly more onto his left leg. The fucking grin on his face…
“You wanna jus’ tell me wha’s gon’ happen.?” Ryslen huffed, his jaw setting as he seethed, Tsukauchi’s pleasure with this situation too off-putting.
“Midnight here is going to take you in. Instead of sending you to a detention center— which proved fruitless.” Tsukauchi stated, shrugging his shoulders almost comically, almost. Midnight stood there with a… dim look, clearly not looking forward to this any more than Ryslen was.
The boy in question could only stare between the two, confused. Shocked— but mainly confused. “I think I' rather go t’ a center, thanks but no thanks.” He scoffed, letting his head fall forward so they couldn't see him. Gritting his teeth, he cursed silently.
O’ course it was me…
“Currently you are unlabeled and have no reports of you missing. Therefore, we may do what we see fit with you for your safety. We believe it would be worse if we sent you to an orphanage.” The man explained briefly. “And we can continue to monitor you as well, think of this as your parole period, Ryslen.”
“Yes sir…” He muttered out, bitter and acidic as he all but spat the words at them.
Formality didn’t suit him.
I jus’ gotta to make it past that. Just f’ now.
“You should only be here for another 24 hours if this goes well. Do you intend on explaining why you were running from the crime scene?” Midnight questioned, a silent command to speak.
“Not rea—”
“Tell us, or your parole gets longer, kid.” Tsukauchi interrupted. Ryslen could only groan.
Fuckin’ adults man…
