@reastless // plotted starter from moritz
Gone again. Only the briefest glimpse of Moritz when Luke turns his eyes to the mirror, and then she is gone again. Sometimes it is at the end of dark hallways, vanishing when Luke turns the light on, and sometimes in the yard, seen through the kitchen window and evaporating behind the veil of steam from a cooking pot. These last few weeks Moritz has been so very distant, and yet so omnipresent, turning up everywhere, and abandoning the encounter the second sheâs noticed. Maybe it is just her nature now. Ghosts lurk. Itâs what they do. But most ghosts donât go to all the effort of these (nearing daily) manifestations. The specters around these woods donât speak to Moritz â most donât want anything to do with one anotherâs gloom. But some days, at a distance, she can hear them laughing at her.
But as silly and stupid and fickle as it might be... she cannot decide what to do. Speaking to Luke after what she attempted two months ago seems an insurmountable task. Leaving him in peace is just as impossible. Funny, how she can still feel guilt grip her by the throat, with the state of her throat being what it is...
In the end itâs her SELFISHNESS that forces her to endure being spotted without fleeing. She canât bear to be alone. She misses Luke. She misses him with the ache of all, older missed friends piled up, and all the fear of every bleak, empty year to come. But just because she stays, it doesnât make her brave. Stuffed into her pockets as she sits at the kitchen table, bracing to catch his attention, Moritzâs rotting hands tremble the same as her voice. â...Luke?â
