Five things to remember, always.
1. Money canāt buy you love or happiness. Sure, it makes things a lot easier (like a lot easier) but what it doesnāt do is make you love someone. Youāll figure this out when someone you want to love so badly is only there for you when they want to give you things, only because it makes themselves feel better. Over time, youāll realize youād rather have someone poor with so much love to give than someone rich with no love to give. Trust me on this, Iāve dealt with a father who is more in love with money than me.
2. You canāt always be the one to fix things. Sometimes, youāre going to have to watch the person you love so dearly and unconditionally cry and say things thatāll rip your heart out of your chest but you need to know that thereās nothing you can do to help them. If they want help, they will get help. The most unfortunate thing is that sometimes, love is not stronger than what is tearing them into pieces. No matter how much you try, you are not stronger than that horrible thing that is weighing them down. I know you may want to be, but youāre not. Iām still trying to tell myself this but Iāve realized that my motherās 20 year addiction is not one a 16 year old girl can ease nor end.
3. Everyone deserves a second chance. People make honest mistakes without thinking and you canāt hold someone accountable for something that was made at a moment of weakness when theyāre willing to give you a lifetime of happiness. Just because someone does one bad thing, it doesnāt mean you should forget about all the good things theyāve done for you. I realized this when I screwed up a 5 year friendship within a 5 minute conversation.
4. People change. Oh God, do people change. Itās like youāre sitting there, talking to someone you thought you knew as well as the back of your own hand and then, out of no where, all you can think about is how you donāt know them at all. Itās like one day, you go to call them on the phone and the person who answers sounds exactly like them, but isnāt them in the slightest bit. I canāt explain it anymore than that and I also canāt explain the pain that comes with it. I found this out when the person I missed so terribly came back to me, but with an entirely new person living inside of them.
5. We were given two hands for a purpose. You are alone in life technically, but not literally. You may have friends, family, and/or a lover; but you are still alone. You have to learn how to be okay with being the only person in the room and you have to learn how to smile when no one else is telling you a joke. The last thing you want to do is rely on a temporary person for permanent happiness, because what happens when you lose that person? Now, not only are they gone, but so is your happiness. I learned this when I invested my heart into someone who could barely invest their time into me and losing them made me realize that in this world, we have two hands for a single reason. That reason, is so we could hold our own hand in this both fucked up and exhilarating life we live and be happy while doing so.
