So I wanted to mention that recently I got to do something I've never done before!
I got to skate on a frozen pond!!
I live somewhere cold. Or more accurately, where its SUPPOSED to be cold. Like really cold. But there's been an awful warm spell for maybe 8 years now, and my favorite weather, snow, has been less common and less thick than it should. Its never been truly cold enough to freeze over ponds.
My dad, when he was younger, used to skate on frozen ponds all the time. I never got to skate like that. I only ice skated once, in a rink, as a little kid, and couldn't get away from the wall.
I picked up roller blading though, and its quite the hobby now. Unfortunately my local roller skating placed close (I know, it sucked big time), and so I had to make do with going around the streets. But I learned alot of valuable experience.
I got to ice skate all these years later, on a frozen pond, with my dad, and that knowledge allowed me to skate without a hockey stick for balance.
It was incredible. I really have no other words to describe it. I fell forward once, I leaned forward too much, but that was it. Its been a while since I've felt that excited, and whimsical, I guess. But yeah, it was great, and I dont really know the words to describe my immense joy!
Thats my little story. I hope, pray, that winters around here get colder. That i see the many inches and feet of snow we used to get. I hope every year I get to skate on a frozen pond.
Oh BTW I actually fell when we were leaving. I put my shoes on and walked on the ice to just admire it, made it like 8 feet from the bench, bwomp, flat on my side. Arm got crushed under my ribcage. Ouch. First time I've been properly winded lol. Its like someone just steals your breath. So yeah my drawing arms all f'ed up cause of that lol
