For a moment the Fjerdan struggles to find a fitting response and his brow simply furrow, as he looks at the younger one. He has neither expected such an accurate assessment of his character, nor the bitterness so openly displayed in these words. But then again - Still waters often run deep and Wylan appears to be one of these cases. One would easily assume that he’d had an easy life, filled with wealth and comfort, though by now Matthias has come to the conclusion that each of them carries their own burden, that each of them have their own stories to tell if they’d choose to share them. Apparently the merchant’s son is no expection. “What would you know about my heart?”, Matthias mutters eventually. “Or about this world, for that matter?” Perhaps it’s a cruel question, and yet that much better than wasting another thought on the matter. On how he had guarded his heart for so many years and when he’d finally began to tear down the walls it’d ended in misery and torture.
