WARNING ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ RANT AHEAD So if you asked me 15 years ago what my favorite author and series was I would've said Laurell K. Hamilton and the #AnitaBlake series hands down. But if I'm honest the books since #IncubusDreams have been lacking and the ones since #KisstheDead have been almost unbearable. I kept saying I wanted less sex & more story, less poly emotional politics & more police work. . Well #SuckerPunch made me realize that this series has wandered so far from the original stuff that made it great that even getting back to police work wouldn't solve the issues. This book has no sex. NONE. It focuses on the police work. Not even zombies make an appearance but instead of being exciting and refreshing its tedious. Edward and Olaf make appearances so there are 3/4 Horseman from the Preternatural branch of the Marshal Service on a case where the wereleopard accused may actually be innocent. Instead of being full of action like Hit List or Skin Trade. We end up with some weird scene where Anita loses control and rolls a stripper, Nicky & Olaf compare notes on being sociopaths, and a TWENTY PAGE discussion in which men discuss what kind of sex Anita likes to determine if she could have sex with Olaf. Fucking rapist serial killer Olaf. Also after all of this you just have Edward catch lycanthrophy after 27 books!?!?! As I said in my #ReadingLiveTweets on Twitter @ mamanerd22 #IHateEverything .
