stay alive
Peter B Parker x reader (sorta?)
fic type: drabble
warnings: none
The first time she told him to stay alive it was a warning.
“If you don’t stay alive I will make sure to bring you back to the land of the living and then kill you again. I don’t want to have to clean up your mess. I’m not the city’s vigilante, you are.”
She had been pissed, and rightly so as he had rolled out in front of her car and she had almost run over him. He responded to her threat with a smirk and a wink, “yeah sure I’ll do my best,” Quickly he had gotten up and swung away with a mock salute.
Thinking about it later she had realized her car probably wouldn’t have done much to him. Still she didn’t regret yelling at him to watch out for real people.

The second time she told him to stay alive it was in follow up to her previous warning.
“I told you to stay alive.” She spoke through gritted teeth, pressing on the open wound in his stomach trying to keep as much red liquid in his body as possible. She had been walking and found him in an alley way, supporting his damaged body by leaning heavily on the brick building wall.
He had chuckled weakly, his eyes halfway open. “I told you-“ he coughed and she tried to shush him but he stubbornly finished his though, “that I’d try my best.”
“Well you need to try harder.” She began to hoist him up and hold his arm over her shoulders, “we are getting your ass to the hospital so walk for me.”

The third time it was several years later, and there had been no run in between the two since she had left him in that emergency room.
She had assumed that was it, she had saved the vigilante twice and done her part in keeping the city safe.
That was until he unexpectedly rang her doorbell one evening.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
“Was hoping for a more cordial response then that to seeing me again but you know I’ll take what I can get.”
She noticed he spoke with humor but there was something off about him and the sparkle in his eyes was dim.
“I don’t know what you’re planning but you better stay alive. For all our sakes.”
“Oh so you admit you need me?”
“I never said that.” She spoke with a huff hugging her arms to her chest. “Is there anything else you want to say to me?”
“No, I just wanted...” he sighed and looked down at his shoes, “I wanted to say thank you. And wish you all the best in the world. You deserve it.” With a flick of his wrist he swing away and didn’t stop at her frantic call of ‘come back!’

The fourth time she said it she was sitting next to his comatose state in a hospital bed.
“Stay alive, I said, and you couldn’t even follow that.” Her eyes were red as tears created streaks down the side of her face.
It had been her fault. She had been walking down the streets of New York late at night after a long shift and hadn’t noticed the two men coming up behind her. She didn’t notice until it was two late and one of them had her by her arm and the other had grabbed her purse.
She let out a frantic scream and a ‘let me go!’ But all that did was make one of them put a gun to her face.
She hadn’t seen him come up from behind her and swipe the gun from her attackers hands. She definitely hadn’t seen the other man pull out a long jagged knife.
Everything had happened so fast, and by the time she had seen it, it was too late.
He crumpled to the sidewalk with a large knife sticking from his chest.
The ambulance came as fast as possible but the doctors didn’t have good things to say. It had punctured his heart and despite his fast healing capabilities, they didn’t know if he’d make it.

The final time she’d said it she was weeping tears of joy.
She has been watching over him night and day and was falling asleep in the chair next to his bed when his fingers started twitching and his eyes fluttered open. He had defied odds and woken up. He was alive.
Without thinking twice she had flung herself on him and kissed him. Smiling slightly into the kiss as she heard his heart monitor start beeping frantically.
“Stay alive Parker, you don’t get to leave me anytime soon.”
