Hi so I don't normally write fanfic, I leave that to the people who are actually good at it (like my girlfriend) but yeah guess you could say I'm inspired? (I love my girlfriend and I miss my girlfriend and all I think about is my girlfriend)
Anyways um this is fluff, raddlove, reader raddagher, mention of loves surgery, yeah idk how to tag shit, I will never write a fic again probably cause I am not good at this.
By the Light of the Screens
It was an odd pairing you and your girlfriend. To many people it made no sense. You were quiet, closed off most of the time, had interests that meant a lot to you but did anyone ever know them. Your girlfriend was much more outwardly passionate, she wore her heart on her sleeve, but she kept it quiet out of fear. But that's exactly why it worked: you were each other's safe place.
The site rumored of your odd pairing. Most people couldn't understand how you too shared anything in common, but you never believed that was all that important. You preferred to listen to others after all, especially when they were as passionate at little things like your girlfriend was.
Your friends were caught off guard as well. Lancaster had a hard time understanding how it worked out so well, Harley somehow had no words, and Klein was a mix of keeping you from hurting each other and making jokes with heavy inuendos. They loved to poke fun at how close you too were, but they never let that get between the friendship.
The nice thing about your role in the site, which your girlfriend found herself building her own life off of, was that you got a quiet room all to yourself. It was a bit small but they didn't matter considering the two of you had no need for personal space. Your two office chairs stood side by side. Arm rests pressed together though they were disregarded to hold hands across the divide. You never imagined finding someone who you didn't mind holding hands with. You never imagined being able to look over and see a beautiful girl say next to you illuminated by the light of the monitors in the dark room.
"I love you" you mumbled in a tone that the words were nearly unintelligible, but your amazing girlfriend always knew. She knew cause she was thinking it too. A smile spread across her face as she turned to catch you staring. "I love you too" she responded through a giggle. She leaned her head across the gap pressing a kiss in your cheek and resting her head on your shoulder.
She stayed like that for a minute before sitting back up with a groan. "Sorry... Still hurts." You just nodded slightly as a look of concern flooded your face. You hated that you couldn't take the pain away. It had been a while since the surgery, but the site of the operation still hurt with pressure. Curse these chairs being too wide to feel close, yet too small to share. "Sorry..." You whispered. "Nah. It's okay. It feels better most times." You nodded remembering how much it hurt before. "Wish these chairs weren't built so dumb," your girlfriend continued, "we should invest in like a small couch- loveseat whatever it's called I don't know." "I don't know if that would fit." You said giggling to your girlfriends excitement. "Yeah... Probably."
You sat in the quiet again, staring at the screens, flipping from camera feed to camera feed. Nothing was happening, and as much that was probably a good thing it was also boring. You sighed as you glanced to the corner where the sleeping bag and pillows were kept. You once used them to sleep alone in the office, but now you perfered to use them to cuddle with your girlfriend. The floor was hard but a few layers of blankets and pillows it was comfortable enough.
As you turned back to your girlfriend you worked up the courage to ask, "we could cuddle on the floor? There not much happening and if they need us they can radio but I highly doubt they will we're a while from a reset so ther-" the second part came out much more rambling than the first. Your girlfriend cut you off with a giggle and squeeze of your hand. "yes" she said much more simply as she stood. "Oh okay! Yeah!" You replied smiling and standing with her. She pulled you slightly to the empty side of the office and handed you the blankets.
You let go of her hand for just a moment as you laid out the blankets and pillows. You sat down first and looked up to your girlfriend expectantly as she sat down resting her body on your side. You wrapped your arms around her and breathed deeply loving how safe you felt with her in your arms. You pressed a kiss in her hair and muttered "I love you" once more into her hair.
There you lay on the floor of the office, wrapped in each other's arms, breathing as one, in the dim light of the computer screens.
