You sit in the window of your room, staring out. There are people bustling about doing different jobs. You see Sasha heading over to the guard tower, ready to take her shift at keeping a lookout while Abraham comes back from his own shift. Maggie is in the farm, checking on the plants and picking whatâs ripe to bring it to the pantry.
You want to be out there with them. You know that you should be, too. Itâs just that recently youâve had zero motivation to do anything. Even finding the energy to go downstairs to eat has been hard, but you do it to make sure nobody worries about you too much. Other days usually arenât this hard, but today everything is hitting you harder than before. Nothing you say to yourself gets you out of the spot youâve made for yourself next to the window. If people understood, theyâd be proud of you for even just crawling out of bed.
Thereâs a loud knock on your door that makes you nearly jump out of your skin. Before you can even call out âWhoâs there?â or âCome in,â Carl comes walking into the room. He seems irritated and you already know that itâs because of you. You and Carl are usually on watch together--the two of you practically do everything else together, too, so it was the obvious choice. You also believe that Rick just doesnât want you to be alone, so he sends Carl there with you.
âWhy arenât you up? Câmon, weâre supposed to be at the right wall in ten minutes!â his tone is harsh. It makes you wince. Even when youâre not feeling so down like this, you hate it when people use a tone like that with you. But now and from Carl no less? It makes you want to curl up and disappear forever.
âI was getting ready,â you mumble. âIâll be there.â He rolls his eye and shakes his head, unbelieving. He walks forward and grabs your arm, prepared to pull you right out of your seat and out the door in just the clothes you were wearing when you went to sleep.
His hand wraps around your wrist and he yanks you hard. A yelp escapes your lips as you trip out of your chair and fall onto your knees. You bite your lip as you fall on your wrist and pain erupts from it.
âOh, shit, y/n,â Carl says, his tone suddenly soft and quiet. âIâm sorry, I donât--â
âItâs fine,â you say, cutting him off, your voice cracking like it always does when youâre about to cry. âJust leave so I can get dressed, okay?â He offers to helps you up, but your push his hand away, getting up by yourself, sending an ache of pain through your wrist. âCarl, leave.â
âNo, y/n,â he says. âIâm sorry. Just forget about guard duty today.â You shake your head, but your mind is telling you to just do it. You know that youâre not going to last long today. Itâll be best for you to just stay here. Plus, youâve now got to get your wrist checked out. Carl notices you holding your wrist and you can see pain flicker in his eyes. âCome here. Please.â You see the plea in his eyes and give in.
He sits down on the bed next to you and takes a look at your wrist. He moves it around a bit and you pull it back, not letting him mess with it more than he already has.
âIâm sorry,â he says again. You nod, not really believing him.
âJust go away.â You lay down on your bed and stare up at the ceiling. Carl still stays on the edge of the bed for a few moments before climbing up next to you. He starts to kiss your wrist than slowly makes his way up your arm. You donât look at him, trying to ensure that you wonât fall for his extremely cute tactics. He makes his way to your collarbone and you falter for just a moment, but Carl sees and you can feel him smile against your skin. He continues up your neck, biting you here and there, til he makes it to your lips. By that point, youâre trying your very hardest to at least not look at him, seeing as you failed at the âno smilingâ part.
âYou still want me to go away?â Carl whispers. You feel his warm breath on your skin and it sends chills through you. âAre you not going to answer me?â He slides an arm over your waist. His warm hand rests on your hip.
âNo,â you say, a smirk on your lips. He rolls his eyes and sits up, holding a hand out for you. You give him a questioning look.
âWe do still have guard duty,â he says. You pout and turn away from him. âWe can always come back later.â You smile and climb off the bed.
âPromise?â
âPromise.â
