This movie was Great (as I'd heard/read)! They did a nice job with any worries about comparisons to the Wicker Man, with maybe some nods (and to other things) but totally their own original story, nearly as great. We talked about it the whole drive home, I'll probably read/watch stuff now, that would have had spoilers, and will definitely watch it again (and maybe many times over the years) to pick up on more stuff/just enjoy it. I'd seriously think of seeing it again in theaters--like my friend Madeleine said "It was so weird, seeing a movie that's actually Really Good--and different--in theaters." And though there are a few graphic parts, they're quick (which kind of made them More impactful) and it mostly relies on putting you in the action, with a feeling of creeping dread, and "What the Fuck is going on here!?" suspense. From the director of Hereditary. And from independent entertainment company A24--who keeps minting gold (they've done The Witch, The Lobster, Ex Machina, etc.). Highly recommended.
