“Surprise.” You said softly and self-consciously folded your arms close to your chest.  

The corner of her lips turned up slowly until her smile reached her ears. She’s got the kind of smile that lighted up the room when she walked in, the one that made people feel warm and welcome. You fell in love with that smile the first time it was directed at you. 

Her mouth hung slightly open as she began running toward you. She collided with you, her arms wrapping around your neck as she buried her face into your shoulder. You present your smile against her skin as you held her close.

“Hey...” You whispered softly and she squeezed you before pulling back but her arms remained around you.

“What are you doing here? You were supposed to come next week for the show.” She smiled as she grabbed the back of your neck, her fingers threading through your hair.

You looked deep into her eyes as you returned her smile. “Thought you might needed a break. You’ve been working so hard lately and I thought maybe I could take you somewhere...” You said quietly, enjoying the way her eyes sparkled with happiness. 

“I would love nothing more.” She said softly and slowly leaned closer until her lips captured yours. You drawned out the familiar feeling of comfort as you return the kiss. She pulled back and you saw her bit her bottom lip. “But I can’t...”

You frowned questioningly. 

She sighed and finally let you go, gesturing around the room. “I really need to rehearse. This performance is really important and I can’t mess it up.”

You caught her hand, making her look at you again. “You won’t.”

She smiled at you hesitantly and you knew she didn’t quite believe you. You forced a smile on your face as a horrible thought popped into your head. You couldn’t believe you were going to say this. 

“Show me some moves.” 

Her surprised laugh made you roll your eyes and regret ever opening up your mouth. You were known for your terrible dancing abilities but Sofia always tried to teach you, little to no success. 

“What?” She asked, her smile wide. 

You rolled your eyes again. “Just do it quickly before I change my mind.” 

She smirked but stepped closer and looked into your eyes. “Put your right hand on my waist.” 

You did as told then she grabbed your left hand and got into a ballroom hold. You couldn’t help the smile gracing your lips as she got closer and you stood almost nose to nose. 

She returned your smile, shaking her head fondly. “You ready?”

You nodded as you squeezed her hand. 

“Just follow me.” She said lowly and before you were ready she started moving, guiding - dragging - you along with her. “That’s it.” She encouraged as you pointed your gaze at her feet, careful not to step on them. It was a simple four step routine but you were proud of yourself. 

“Hey, look at me.” She said and you whipped your head up. Her beautiful brown eyes drew you in and your heart melted. You were so in love with her, it was ridiculous.  

“You ready for the big finish?” She asked but you didn’t need more instruction. You knew this part. 

You let go of her hand and carefully placed your hands on her back, dipping her effortlessly as she gasped softly. You smiled and leaned down kissing her lovingly. Her palm slid down onto your cheek as she smiled into the kiss. 

“You are amazing.” You said after pulling back, looking deep into her eyes to get the message across. Her expression softened before she pulled you back into another kiss. 

And a week later, when you saw your girlfriend kill a performance dedicated to Britney Spears, dancing with incredible artists and having the time of her life...you couldn’t be prouder.
