This big boy is a gatefold 2LP and SO wonderful to look at and handle. I feel bad hiding the beautiful sleeve art away on my shelf for months at a time. It is printed cleanly and vibrantly and the thing itself is so sturdy... good job to Milan Records!!! The smoke effect in the vinyl is also a lovely touch. When I sent my mom into the record store to buy this for my birthday I made sure she knew GET THE RED ONE!! And then she wouldn't even let me look at it in the shrinkwrap until I opened it on my actual birthday.
What new thing can I say about Akira? The film is a triumph in animation, storytelling, sound, and aesthetic. This record is the same. The iconic imagery of this film needs the music to exist. The liner notes included here are a bit dated but the history of this soundtrack fascinates me. It really is art like this that makes me happy to be alive to experience it.
