clear  voice  resonates  through  uncharacteristic  silence.      combat  boots  still  on  the  last  stair  for  a  moment,   vigilance  sinking  its  teeth  in  the  tender  spot  beneath  her  ribcage.      there  is  sharpness  in  her  eyes,   twin  blades  dissecting¹  every  spot  of  the  chamber.      

¹ OLD     HABITS     DIE     HARD,   muscle  memory  already  itching  for  the  familiarity  of  a  trigger  beneath  her  index.      the  stories  about  peace  after  the  ceasefire  are  just  that.      𝚂𝚃𝙾𝚁𝙸𝙴𝚂   𝚂𝙴𝚁𝚅𝙴𝙳  𝙾𝙽  𝙰  𝚂𝙸𝙻𝚅𝙴𝚁   𝙿𝙻𝙰𝚃𝚃𝙴𝚁,   only  for  the  clueless  to  believe.      thing  is,   clueless  has  never  been  a  descriptor  for  her.       blind,   at  times,   maybe.      blind  to  the  hypocrisy  of  A͟L͟D͟E͟R͟A͟A͟N͟,   with  poison  beneath  its  sweet  facade;      blind  to  the  new  republic’s  web  of  lies,   the  continuous  war  disguised  as  peace  and  salvation.       AND  STILL  SHE  BELIEVED  IT.     the  promise  of  change,   that  the  battlefield  constricted  between  her  ribs  would  subdue.

the  last  stair  is  descended  with  deliberate  loudness,   right  hand  finding  its  way  on  her  hip.      ❝   𝙆𝙍𝙄𝙁𝙁 !      and  here  i  was  starting  to  wonder  if  i’d  finally  left  you  and  the  womp  rat  behind.      that’s  been  my  plan  all  along,   y’know.      𝙳𝙸𝚃𝙲𝙷    𝚈𝙾𝚄,    steal  this  gem,   get  rich  off  the  money  people’ll  give  me  for  repairs  because  they’re  too  afraid  of  letting  this  antique  fly  over  their  heads.   ❞     tongue  clicks  against  teeth,   amusement  clear  in  the  crinkles  by  her  eyes.      MEMORY     SERVES     AS     A     MAP      /       A     BOTTLE     OF     WINE     [  CORELLIAN,   STOLEN  FROM  SOMEONE  WHO  NO  LONGER  HAS  NEED  FOR  IT.  ]     SOON     OCCUPYING   HER     HAND.       she  fills  two  metal  mugs  to  the  brim,   the  rosé  liquid  almost  spilling  over  the  brim  as  she  sets  them  on  the  crate  next  to  him.     

CAMARADERIE     BUILDS     ON     RESPECT     AND     TRUST.       [  hard - earned,   complicated,   layered  in  intricate  ways.  ]       and  it  is  respect  that  has  her  turn  her  back  to  him.
