British musician and producer William Orbit, best known for his groundbreaking work with Madonna, Blur, All Saints and U2, has died at the age of 69.
Orbit reportedly died at his home on July 23, 2026, according to a statement shared by his family and friends. A cause of death has not been announced.
Orbit became a major force in pop music after producing Madonna’s iconic 1998 album Ray of Light. His futuristic combination of electronic music, techno, trip-hop and atmospheric sounds helped reshape Madonna’s sound.
The album produced memorable hits including “Frozen,” “The Power of Goodbye” and “Ray of Light”, while earning Madonna three Grammy Awards.
His impressive career also included Blur’s 13 and All Saints’ chart-topping songs “Pure Shores” and “Black Coffee.” He also worked with artists including U2, Pink, Britney Spears, Robbie Williams, Melanie C and Katie Melua.
Orbit continued releasing music as a solo artist, with his final studio album, The Painter, arriving in 2022.
