It's early morning when Kriijo arrives back at the sanctuary, but he knows Az will be expecting him sooner than later. After slipping into his quarters to drop off his smuggled cargo, he makes his way to the only person he trusts to help him sort this out. When he knocks, it's tentative, cautious. He doesn't want to alert anyone else to his presence; he's not sure how much time he can waste before the child gets bored and decides to disobey his order to stay put. Probably not long.
Brielle, as ever, is not a morning person. She also doesnāt expect a cautious knock from Kriijo, and almost ignores it in favor of more sleep. It is, thus, an eventualĀ open door. Brielleās hair is poking every which way, her clothes are still being un-twisted from sleeping.
āKriijo?ā She clears her throat, tries again.Ā āHey, youāre back. Miss me so much you had to come right here?ā
ā”ā
Kriijo feels like one of the few safe places left. How weird is that? After everything thatās happened, recently, you would think itās the last place Iād feel alright. But, whether or not itās warranted, itās just nice to have someone I can relax around.
ā¦But, yeah. Maybe Iāve put too much faith in him, like I did with Az.
@rawlithkhaj:
With Sparrow gone, the work is doubled. This one has a moment to spare for the Listener, of course.
Good. With me. [He nods his chin towards the adjacent corridor and heads up towards the Night Motherās chamber on the upper level. Itās usually quiet up here, and tonight is no exception. As a formality, Az regards her with a polite nod before he turns to face Kriijo.]Ā
I need you to run an errand for me.

Tell us about your feelings towards your Dark Brothers and Sisters; Az, Bri, JP and Kriijo!
Yes, alright.
Brielle is absolutely lovely.Ā I mean that literally and figuratively.Ā She does wonders with machines and she always knows how to fix whatās broken.Ā Ā Sheās a wonderful friend.Ā Supportive.Ā Patient.Ā Iād like to be more like Brielle.Ā We should all strive to be a bit more like Brielle.Ā
Kriijo is terrifying, and especially so when he thinks you have a weak grip and shoddy footwoork.Ā All the others seem to get on well with him, though, so it must just be me.Ā I wish we got on better, but I suppose that wonāt happen until I work up the courage to actually go and speak with him.Ā
Itās strange having Jean back again.Ā I feel as though weāve all been tip-toeing around the mammoth in the room.Ā He died.Ā He was gone for months.Ā Iād already done my grieving, and then he came back.Ā And now he actually looks as though he could kill someone.Ā I didnāt know Bretons could be so muscular.Ā Heās bigger than I am.Ā Ā What did they do to him?
Azarath doesnāt like me much, I donāt think.Ā He keeps me around because Iām useful, but I donāt think heād mourn for very long if I didnāt come back from an assignment.Ā I suppose he has to be that way, though, doesnāt he?Ā He wouldnāt be a very good Listener if he got hung up every time someone ended up dead.Ā Especially not in this business.Ā
Iāll do my best on the next assignment.Ā That should please him, if nothing else.
Calling in the Understudy
Brielle sighed, waiting outside Kriijoās door for probably a little too long. She hadnāt wanted to ask him for this favor. It made Sparrowās being gone feel permanent, and, as much as she didnāt want her friend to leave, she was afraid for her to stay. That meant finding a replacement for the work she needed to do, and Kriijo was the best option.
In one hand she clutched a small leather satchel. It had taken a good deal of wheedling to get it out of Mākhali, mostly because he didnāt want to lose his position as Rugarās apprentice, but heād finally sold her some moon sugar. It would help to put Kriijo in a good mood, maybe, but really she wanted to at least relax for some of this conversation. Sheād spent too much time lately, cooped up in her workshop, sulking. She missed him.
She knocked, her usual staccato bursts, meant to sound cheerful (because they usually were). Hopefully, heād have some free time.
Tell us about your little family. Who's your favorite? The suck up? The diamond in the rough? Give us the scoop!
Brielle is my closest confidant. Thatās as close as Iāll ever come to favorites. I admit members to the Dark Brotherhood based on merit and, when they occur, on the recommendations of the Night Mother.Ā
Brielle is a gods damned genius, and this shithole wouldnāt run half as well without her. That said, she could stand to grow up a little. However, butting heads is healthy, and she hasĀ been known to play den mother now and again so that I donāt have to. She and Nazir might as well be the fucking spine of this place.Ā
Maksim is a suck-up if Iāve ever seen one. Heās too cutthroat and out for himself for me to give him any more responsibility around here, but I see potential for him to learn some humility. Heās young. Once he learns to play to his strengths and rely on his companions, heāll do very well.Ā
Jean-Pierre is a bit of a wild card these days. I might be getting in my own damned way treating him this cautiously. I have no complaints about him, though. Kriijo has set to proving himself lately, which I can appreciate, and I have a couple of new arrivals in the works as we speak. So, weāll have to wait and see.Ā
