Okay so I know you're a crazy Practical Magic person (as you should be, it is one of the greatest films ever lbr), but I was wondering if you've read the book and if you have thoughts? I just finished it, really enjoyed it, but also it's crazy different from the film and I'm trying to find someone to talk at about it. And everyone seems to have only seen the film, so I'm at a loss.
I read the book YEARS ago, and honestly? Not a big fan. I felt that the characters weren’t nearly as bright and dynamic, and that the sister relationship wasn’t nearly as powerful or touching, and the romance in the book didn’t thrill me as much.
Granted, I think I’m just not a fan of Hoffman’s prose -- I’ve read four of her books now, because I keep hoping she’ll click with me because you’d THINK she would click with me and I have a lot of friends who really dig her.
But nope. Nothing. I just feel like there’s always something off/lacking in her stories and characters. Practical Magic is one of the few situations where I prefer the movie to the book (also on this small list: The Witches of Eastwick, Chocolat, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Stir of Echoes).
