This bake is a bit of a cheat (actually, a lot of a cheat) as it’s simply a mix in a bag – just add water!
The fiance bought this mix while we were in Big Bear on Monday. We were an hour out looking at a wedding venue in Angelus Oaks and then headed to the small town for lunch. We stumbled across a cute little home decor store that made me want all the rustic decorations.
I love these sort of stores because they have random food products, In addition to the scone mix, I saw pasta shaped like pumpkins, teas, coffees, spices, oils, and even Halloween sprinkles.
The store was half farmhouse, part Christmas, part autumn, and the rest eclectic randomness. It was wonderful.
The instructions are a no brainer. Preheat oven. Pour mix into a bowl. Add water. Stir. Glob amounts onto a greased sheet. Bake.
Some people are anti mixes, however I think they’re pretty nifty. Especially when you’re low on supplies or even food in general. And the fiance and I have been eating pancakes too many days in a row. It was time for a new breakfast food.
Lacking a scone shaping tool, I just scooped out the batter and dropped it on the tray. I was going to attempt shaping the scones into a scone like structure or even use a cookie cutter, but the mix was too sticky to do anything other than blobs.
While in Solvang two days prior, we had also stopped at a spice shop, Solvang Spice Merchant. There they had various spices, teas, and sugars for sale.
I figured adding raspberry sugar on top of my raspberry scones would be pretty yummy. I will have to try making a peach shortcake, as the back of the sugar packet really likes putting raspberry sugar with peach desserts.
Having never tried the raspberry sugar before, I opted to only put it on a few of the scones. According to the mix, you can make about 12 of the scones. I made 10.5 since my sizing is all over the place.
The scones went into the oven for 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Some came back out a little browner than the others, but still pretty darn yummy.
Pre mixes, box mixes, package mixes, whatever mixes, are pretty great. I know making things from scratch is more ideal and impressing, but mixes are handy in a pinch.
Always browse the food products in homey stores. You never know what great things you’ll stumble across.
