i feel like we often underestimate one's ability to hyperfixate on media they cannot absorb derictly from the source.
let's hear it out for those who pour over fanfictions and fanart and headcanons and the wikis, yet cannot watch the original source media, perhaps disallowed by their parents or because they just can't focus on it. and there's a million other ways this can go.
just because they don't see the source in its original beauty does NOT make them any less of a fan.
