quick question, i have read many fanfics, including "this, you protect" and i was wondering what other fanfics you thought good enough to print a hard copy? I am looking for some good recs :)
Okay, wow, so Iām very glad you asked this question, because it gives me a reason to go through my fanfic library and Iām home sick right now and could use some re-reading.
I print off mostly shorter fanfics (less than 20K), because theyāre easy to make a booklet out of, and theyāre from a variety of fandoms and for a variety of reasons. So with that in mind, letās go (in no order what so over!) - here are SOME of the fics I have printed:
* Letās start with some Stranger Things fanfics, because thatās what Iām mostly into right now. (coming for the kind, thatās) a far cry by lipghallagher is a must-read because of the language and the italics and I swear the whole fic is just rolling its eyes sarcastically at me when I read it (I fucking love it).
* Billy Hargrove is my favourite character in all his trash glory, and Iād get between him and a charging demogorgon. Since this is the case, the a sinner once, a sinner twice-series by palinopsia is such a great read, because it just makes everything slot into place; shows who billy is, and why.
* Meet with monsters by lymricks is a great read. Lymricks also happen to be one of my many favourite authors, so thereās a lot of great things to read there (and more to print off, eventually ā¦)
* And sometimes, you just want something fluffy or funny or easy-to-read. Then, these are what you need: The Pleasure, the Privilege is Mine by moonflowers (I was drawn to it because of yellow paint, and I work in a paint store, but itās so fucking sweet and also has action and boys fighting monsters so yay!), The Favor by Flippyspoon (another favourite author; lots of good reading there!), and āWhy are you asking me?ā by emzular (because itās fluffy and funny and it amuses me greatly).
* To move on to other fandoms; I like aloneintherainās Spider-man works, and the ones I have printed are Birds Eating Other Birds, Bleed the Water Red and Fitting In (Tiny Spaces) - for the whump, to be honest. I also printed Always Glad You Came, because itās fucking adorable and contains Misunderstandings, which is like my favourite trope ever, and When the Dead Are All Living (because it puts two of my favourite characters - Peter Parker and Bucky Barnes - in the same fic, and itās great).
* Speaking of misunderstandings; Bits and Pieces by Asidian is a wonderful little bite-sized (heh, see what I did there?) Rise of the Guardians piece that I re-read from time to time. Misunderstandings and guilt at its best. <3
* More Spidey-fics? More Spidey-fics! isaDanCurtisproduction is a fucking gift, okay? One of these days I WILL print off the whole Petey and Wade and other being punched in the face things-series, but as of right now Iāve only printed off a couple of my favourite chapters of Petey and Wade and their miscellaneous adventures (in which everything that could have happened, did happen).
* Welcome to Hale by relenafanel & rlnerdgirl is a Teen Wolf fanfic that I love, because itās about a place I want to go to, or maybe open. Either way, itās amusing, a little scary, and very inspiring.
* More Teen Wolf awesomeness: Fireman Derekās Crazy Pie (Cheeseburger Baby) by owlpostagain is a Sterek fic where Derek is a grumpy fireman who bakes in his free time and Stiles is a fire hazard. Also Laura is great, so. Who can resist that kind of combination, huh?? No one, thatās who. Also, please feast your eyes upon Bogarted by HalfFizzbin, because that is one amusing piece of writing that had me in stitches (becasue Derek is hit with a curse to force him to narrate his own life as a Film Noir voiceover).
* Named for Loyalty by Lost-Remembrance, because while the movie Prince Of Persia wasnāt ā¦ Oscar-material, maybe ā¦ it has LOTS of angst-potential and while I can be indifferent about shipping I fucking LOVE brotherly bonds and family ties, okay? Mix that with whump, and I am SOLD, my friend.
* Diving by Sarruby - an Alex Rider fanfic that is short but contains whump, stubborn characters, self-sacrifice and guilt. All things that I like.
* Sometimes I just want feelgood. A safe bet then is the Habit-series by Nirejseki (consisting of The Habits of Newlyweds and The Habits of Married Couples as well as a third part which I have not printed) - which is a Legends of Tomorrow Mick/Len fic which is utterly ridiculous and awesome. Body-swapping, and god itās so stupid but I love it.
* More Legends of Tomorrow fics? Well, Leonard Snart is a favourite of mine, so 5 Times Barry Caught Len Doing Good Things and 1 Time The Whole World Saw by heartdesire456 is very satisfying for me to read. I also like The Criminal Keeper, an Origin story by town_without_heart and Rich Manās World by Nirejseki (accountant!Len - come on, thatās hilarious).
* BloodFromTheThorn writes great The Musketeers fanfics, and I very much like The Agents, although I have only printed off chapter 2 as of yet.
* If you feel in a Guardians of the Galaxy mood, let me recommend Father Figure by laylabinx (family feels! also I kinda love Yondu), Chime - Click by Donatello7 (whump and team-as-family) and Persistene Hunting by grocketinmypocket (which thrills me so much that I have to go back and re-read it from time to time; imagine what the human race can do, okay?? potential!!!)
* Thereās also another favourite, to which I regularly return; Obscure and Lonely by Asilda - an Inception fic starring competent-but-beaten-down!Arthur being badass and saving kids. Come on, how can you say no to that?? You canāt. This was one of the first fics I printed.
* PeaceHeather writes the most LOVELY Loki fics (I have re-read Odinās Son, Tyrās Son several times but as itās too long and a series I havenāt printed it yet - itās on my list, though, because itās so expertly written!), and the one I have printed is Castaway Getaway, because itās the equivalent of throwing two characters (in this case Loki and Tony Stark) onto a deserted island and have them fend for themselves. I LIKE those tropes, okay? I also like these characters so yeah, well worthy of a read. Well-written.
I have more stories printed, of course, but this list is getting long enough. For the longer ones of my favourite fics, please see my bookmarks on AO3 (A āPā in the description means that Iāve printed it) - my goal is to eventually print all my favourites, but I kinda want them made into real books that I can hold so Iām looking into printing-on-demand because I canāt keep printing all these at work ā¦
