A/N: I just needed more of my precious bean and her emotional support warden in my life. Writing them just brings me joy and gives me life. I have so many random lil HC IDK if they are going to make into my actual fic but this probably will in some form... full thing below the cut.
Maeve waited till everyone else was preoccupied to slip away from the camp they had just established near the Crossroads. They were close to where Alistair had told her he would be, before expressly warning her not to come find him because the other Wardens were looking for him. Maeve, like usual, didnāt listen.Ā
She remembered the cabin that they had found years before, lost to the world by a lake most people had forgotten about. It had been a refuge for them once and it didnāt surprise Maeve in the least the Alistair had returned there. Maeve fate stepped through the trees, she had always been good about sneaking up on people unnoticed.Ā āQuieter than a mouse... not a sound... not even a squeak.ā Alistairās words to her from years ago still rung in her ears clear as day any time she had to go unseen.Ā
As Maeve neared the shack, she could her Alistair mumbling to himself. Maeve couldnāt make out the words but just seeing him grumbling about carrying firewood suddenly made everything feel a little more normal. Standing near the edge of the lake she smirked as she crossed her arms in front of her chest.Ā āSo, good job hiding...ā Maeve called out.Ā
Hearing her voice was a shock to Alistair, he paused mid-step. His gaze shifted towards Maeve and his hazel eyes narrowed in on her pale face.Ā āDo you... ever... listen,ā Alistair grumbles as the firewood went tumbling to the ground as he began to storm over towards Maeve.Ā āThe not listening to what I ask of you was cute when you were twelve...ā He started scolding her but Maeve couldnāt help but smile at him.Ā āStop it...ā She held her arms open like she was waiting for a huge but Alistair only scowled.Ā āMaeve.ā
āWhat?!ā She exclaimed with a laugh trying to lighten the mood. The last few months had been hard on her, and for the first time since she had returned to Ferleden, she felt almost herself again seeing Alistair. Even if he was upset with her.Ā āCome on, I have not actually seen you in three years can you please stop being a horrible git for one moment and give me a hug...ā Maeve pleaded as for the first time she let herself start to show some of the emotions she had been keeping buried inside.Ā āPlease, like my hand glows... there is a hole in the sky....āĀ
Alistair cut her off.Ā āYour hand glows?ā He repeated wide-eyed as he grabbed her glove covered hands.Ā āWhich one? Why does your hand glow, Maeve? What did you do? What did Morrigan have you do? Was this your mother?ā His questions came faster than Maeve could process them and she cracked.Ā
Tears began to roll down her cheeks.Ā āI have no idea...ā She cried and in an instant, Alistair had forgotten all his anger over her lack of listening to his wish to be left alone. He wrapped his arms around the young woman and held her tightly as sobbed softly.Ā āI donāt know what to do...ā She cried into his shoulder.Ā
āMakerās breath, Maeve....I leave you for a few years...ā He paused as he caught a glimpse of approaching bandits. He slipped his hands around Maeveās cheeks and lifted her head.Ā āWe will fix this, but first, I need you to do your fade step thing and get my sword and my shield from that tree behind me...ā Maeve was still crying but nodded. Alistair gave her a soft smile.Ā āGo... now...ā In a flash, a pale blue smoke Maeve disappeared and then reappeared with another flash, his sword, and shield in her hands.Ā āPlease tell me you have gotten better at aiming...ā He commented as he took the weapons from her.Ā
Maeve shrugged, not being able to answer before the distant twang of a bowstring could be heard and Alistair lifted his shield just in time to block the incoming arrow. Maeve smiled at him.Ā āStill saving my ass...āĀ
āIf I didnāt Morrigan would skin me alive...ā He quipped back, he smirked for a moment as he lifted his sword.Ā āWe are going to have to talk about all this...and your sister...but first... do me a favor and roast these bandits..āĀ

a/n:Ā I am not sure this is how itās going to go when I actually write the fic but this is my little current HC for how Maeve finds Alistair.
Leliana had cornered Maeve in the Chantry hall in Haven. The older woman knew that Maeve knew more than she was letting on, Maeve had always been exceptionally good at keeping secrets. Folding her arms in front of her chest, Leliana sighed heavily.Ā āWhere is he?āĀ
āHe, who?ā Maeve asked trying to act as if she had no idea whom, Leliana was referring to.Ā
Scowling, Leliana sighed.Ā āMaeve,ā Leliana cautioned as she raised an eyebrow. Maeve suddenly felt 12 years old again. Being scolded for getting caught stealing.Ā āWhere is Alistair? I know you know where he is...if you donāt...āĀ
āMorrigan doesnāt know where he is. If thatās what you are thinking.ā Maeve corrected her old friend quickly.Ā āAlistair and her are fighting again...ā As she added the list comment her tone dropped as she looked down at her boots.Ā
āSo... do you know?ā Leliana questioned once more. She was not about the let Maeve sidestep or backtrack her way out of this conversation. Leliana had known Maeve most of her life, though the scrawny little girl had long faded away, she still tried to use all her old tricks.Ā
Maeve pursed her lips before she scowled.Ā āAnd if I do.... what do you want with him?ā As much as Alistair had protected her over the years, Maeve was trying in her own way to protect him. The fierceness behind her words caused a smirk to dash across Lelianaās lips as she thought about how far the girl had come.Ā
Reaching out Leliana placed her hand on Maeveās arm.Ā āThe rest of the Wardens are vanishing, I have tried to make contact with serval of Ellaās friends and...ā Lelianaās mask dropped for a moment and fear for her lover flashed across her pale face.Ā āI am worried for him if we knew...āĀ
āWait... whereās Ella?ā Maeve quickly questioned her own fears growing.
āSafe, fine... do not freet. Ella has her own task she needs to deal with. Right now, my concern falls with Alistair and the other Wardens.ā Leliana squeezed Maeveās arm trying to reassure the young woman that everything would be fine.Ā
Turning her head away Maeve cursed softly under her breath before turning back to face Leliana who scowled at her for cursing in the Chantry.Ā āI know... I know...ā Maeve responded quickly before she let out a heavy sigh of her own.Ā āI am not sure of an exact location... but...ā Maeve wavered for a moment knowing that involving Alistair in all this was bound to cause issues at some point. At very least wit her sister.Ā āI can find out...āĀ
Lelianaās eyes narrowed in on Maeveās golden eyes.Ā āHow?āĀ
Maeve smirked.Ā āYou do not give away your contacts, do you? Your secrets.ā Her lips pursed together and her eyes grew wide as made her point.Ā
A genuine smile grew across Lelianaās lips as reached up and patted Maeveās cheek.Ā āYou did listen to my lessons after all..ā She commented proudly.Ā
āJust, not the ones about the Chant of Light and Andraste...ā Maeve laughed.Ā
