Soo I repainted a large light up button...
Actually, I traced its shape onto cardstock, painted that, glued it on and sealed it with water resistant sealer modpodge.

Again marbling on the weekend, this time trying out the suminagashi style? I think in theory I like the successful results of this process better than Western marbling but it doesn't work as well with my tiny setups and where I "take the print" matters more.
So my ability to solder has atrophied beyond use (and I believe past fumblings have destroyed my iron’s tips) but thankfully my pack ratting means I’ve heat-shrink tubing on hand, which will have to be good enough.
Mounted the final crystals and finished the base paper mache layer. Now to create a handful of switches (paperclips! straws! conductive thread!) and see if I can wire this sucker up... and then the “fun” of decorating this can commence.Â
Resin casts with LEDs. My magic crystal mountain is about to get LIT, ya’llÂ
It turns out I have many shades of pink. This is somewhat of a surprise to me.

More Borax crystals, this time on some fake flowers... meh? Better than the paper cranes at least.
They sparkle quite nicely in direct winter sunlight... not quite as “ice-y” as I’d hoped, more “dew-y”Â
Tried my hand at growing Borax crystals this weekend. After seeing an art piece with them covering books I’ve had a want to try it on origami. So I did. And... yep... now I’ve got some cranes with these crystals on them. Yep... ok....Â
Chalk this up to one of those “the important thing here was the idea” projects... no idea what good the end results get me (you cannot un-fold the cranes) but Now I Know.
Next step is to burn one of them...
Been doing a lot of paper mache in the evenings. I’ve found paper clay works well to smooth out the surfaces afterwards and integrate items like eyes and gemstones. These guys are just more PAX pod holder ideas. The pink one has already been completed and looks pretty nice. The brown and green one are still in progress.
I found painting around the eyes to be hard so this time I mixed some of the paint/colors I’ll be using in with the paper clay to try and negate the need. The green one I’m hoping to cover in yarn (not sure how to affix yarn to dude without it looking tacky) and the brown one will have patches of fake fur (not sure how I’m going to blend from fake fur to paper mache....)
