I'm gonna be real with y'all, shit's looking bleak.
Ramble incoming wrt the general state of the world. Very loosely structured. It feels like the world around me is going down the drain. My timeline is fuzzy since I'm currently on a shit ton of medication recovering from a surgery, but one by one, it's been disaster after disaster. First was the war in Gaza, then the sudden inescapability of Generative AI slop, then the inauguration of Trump, then the resumption of ICE raids and the allowing of raids in churches and schools, then the banning of HRT for trans people under the age of 19, then the banning of trans women from women's sports, then the capture of the US treasury department by Elon Musk and his barely adult dweeb brigade, and the confirmation of Robert Fuckwit Kennedy Jr. to the position of health secretary and Tulsi Gabbard to the position of intelligence chief, and JUST TODAY, Trump stating that he wants to send American troops into Gaza to clear the rubble and redevelop it under US ownership... And that is NOT even beginning to address the cost of living, the nearly absent resistance on behalf of the democratic party... Nor am I even talking about the general shittiness of late stage capitalism nor what brought us to where we are today. As a marginally housed woman from the US who is for the forseeable future stuck inside recovering from a surgery, I'm exhausted. There's not much I can do. If any of you are familiar with The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein, this is the whole point. The point is for us to be too shocked, too overwhelmed to fight back. For me, it's working, since my real life situation (without going into details) is already pretty shitty. In times of crisis there are people who stand up and fight back, and there are people who leave and do what they can to find relative safety for themselves. I'm not much of a fighter, my life has been one traumatic event to one poorly timed global catastrophe to another generation-defining incident. As things are right now, I have a not very exhaustive list of things that I will be doing to ensure my safety. 1) Get a van 2) Renew my passport 3) Study abroad 4) Establish myself somewhere else, ideally permanently While I'm focusing on all of that, I'll be working on myself and reflecting on what I can do to help people with what time I have here in the US. Stay safe, everyone.
