First Gaming Commercial Console in History (A Summary)
In 1972, the first videogame console was released by Magnavox, an electronics company. Created by Ralph Baer, known as "The Father of Videogames".
The "Magnavox Odyssey" had limited graphic capacities, while it only showed two white blocks and a vertical line along the screen, it included translucent color superpositions for configurations and designs proporses.
The controls had 3 buttons, one for vertical movement, one for horizontal movement and a "Reset" button.
350,000 units were sold and wasn't a commercial success to the fact of a bad commercialization and information since people will think that this device will only work on Magnavox TV's.
This videogame console didn't have audio either and the price of it might have been to high since it was around $100 equal to $600 today.
Despite the unsuccessful destiny for this device, the "Magnavox Odyssey" introduced the informatic technology to homes, proving and existing market for home videogames.
Ralph Baer - Créateur de la Magnavox Odyssey by Erwann Terrier
Today is a great day in my gaming life! I'm here at one of the Smithsonian buildings. And they had a meet and greet! I struck up a conversation with a presenter and he introduced me to Ralph Baer's son! If it wasn't for this man's father, our hobby and industry would be fundamentally different. We tried out various things his father had a chance to blueprint and create. We talked about gaming back then and now. And I was asking how that prototype Oddysey was hooked up to a modern TV. My dumb butt thought the display with all those things was a replica. But they both told me that this was the real thing. Awesome! I'm awestruck to be a part of a piece of history and I was proud to shake that gentleman's hand. Game on!
