they kept talking up snow white, except i found that a lot of the time she was this defiant person they kept referring to. maybe once or twice but it wasn't a consistent personality trait. she's a survivor yes, not defiant.

they did this natural-innocent-pure vs. superficial, narcissistic beauty which worked well and i liked analysing and played right into the stereotype because it was relevant but they could have done it and still given snow white lines. i mean for the title character, it felt like a majority of her lines consisted of gasping and crying.

it really needed comic relief, badly.

the battle scene made me groan because it was so bad, just no, they're dumb. they see these gates aren't opening to let them through but still keep going and then just stand underneath while it's raining arrows on them. d u m b.

i did like the ending

but i didn't like that she somehow suddenly learned to fight with a sword, or that the huntsman taught her to fight. she was by herself for 10 years in a tower, surely she would have taught herself something by then. 

and before people argue that, the film takes a LOT of fairytale elements since it is clearly a fairytale. and if her mum can fucking wish for a baby girl (like it happened in the original) and describe her exactly as she wants the daughter to look like and then it happens then snow white can learn some tricks while she's locked away in the tower.

honestly it feels like at the beginning she was this awesome badass girl, she tricked the queen's brother to escape, but then as soon as she meets the huntsman and has his protection, all of that disappears and she relies on the huntsman to rescue her. and to be honest, by the end of the film it seemed like it was more about the huntsman overall than snow white.
