Avian

Hundreds of years ago, some small tribes of people were once blessed by the gods with the wings of birds, insects, and dragons for different reasons in order to protect themselves. Their descendants still wander the lands to this day. Avians have also been infamous for triggering traps, hidden mechanisms, and unpredictable magical effects due to their curiosity.

They appear decently similar to other usual creatures, like Humans and Elves, but with wings sprouting from their backs and sometimes behind their ears.

Stats

Creature Type: You are a Humanoid.

Size: Varies, depending on who your ancestors were.

Speed:  You have a base walking speed of 30 feet.

Alignment: Avians can be a range of alignments, but typically lean towards chaotic.

Age: Varies, depending on who your ancestors were.

Languages: You can read, speak, and write common, avian (homebrew language), and any other languages that might be associated with whatever species you are.

Features

Ability Score Increase: Your Dexterity or Strength modifier increases by 2, or both by 1.

Gift of Flight: You have a fly speed of 30 ft, no hover.

Why are there buttons on the floor?: You gain 1d4 temporary HP from this trait whenever you activate an unfamiliar device like a button or lever for the first time. You can only use this trait once per short or long rest.

Subraces

Winged Descendant: There are 3 subraces of Avian:

Passerine

Your ancestors were gifted the wings of birds, like Sparrows or Ravens, for their kindness and compassion for themselves and others. 

Ability score increase: Your Charisma score increases by 1.

Song of the Sky: You learn the Vicious Mockery cantrip. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this.

Insect

Your ancestors were gifted the wings of bugs, like Ladybugs and Butterflies, for their meticulousness and ability to strategize quickly.

Ability score increase: Your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Swarm Instinct: You learn the Guidance cantrip. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this.

Wyvern

Your ancestors were gifted with the wings of dragons for their bravery, ambition, and willingness to protect one another.

Ability score increase: Your Strength score increases by 1.

Draconic Spark: You learn the Thaumaturgy cantrip. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for this.

Blazeborn

"Redstone-ificator!” -Tango Tek’s catch phrase.

Fiery creatures originating from fiery lands, Blazeborn are descendants of Blazes, a species that hasn’t been sighted for quite the length of time. They are very clever and innovative, albeit having a rather hot temper. They have fiery hair, bright red eyes, and bright, flaming rods are always seen to float majestically around them. 

Creature Type: You are a humanoid. You are also considered an Elemental (fire) for prerequisites that require it.

Size: Blazeborns are about the size of Humans or Elves. You are Medium.

Speed: 30ft.

Alignment: Blazeborns’ alignments vary, although crossing paths with a Lawful Good Blazeborn is quite rare.

Age: Blazeborns live roughly 350 to 400 years, about half the length of an Elf’s lifespan.

Languages: You know Common and one other language you and your DM agree is appropriate for your character.

As a Blazeborn, you have the following abilities:

Darkvision: You have Darkvision for 60ft.

Fire Resistance: You have resistance to Fire damage.

Blaze Rods: You know the Fire Bolt cantrip. Additionally, as an action, you can touch a flammable object and it will catch fire. If that object is being carried, then the person holding it takes 1d8 fire damage. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

so in an adventure i'm dming, one of the characters is 10 years old. like, literally 10. and he got into whatever stash of tequila the party had been storing. and we had to deal with that.

now, a couple weeks later, in a rp community, @starlitnight864 has done pretty much the same thing. and i'm the one dealing with it.

So yalls know Chris Van Allsburg right? The guy who wrote Polar Express and Jumanji?

Well he also has this really cool collection of pictures, called The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. The story goes that the stories themselves were lost, and are a great writing prompt. I love them a ton and they're super cool :D

DIRECTIONS

Write a story or fanfic of some sort based off one or more of the pictures. It can be as exact or as loose as you want but like try to make it at least clear that it's based on a certain few. Otherwise you have full creative freedom to take the plot wherever you so choose

MAX 1000 WORDS. Ya gotta challenge yourself. It's gonna be hard but I believe in you :D

There's a little caption on every picture like "The fifth one ended up in France." You don't have to and it doesn't have to be exact but if you need plot use that
