To be honest, Nate has never been one to let himself dwell too long on what-if concepts, he can’t see into the future or control it, so why worry about it? He doesn’t know where he’ll be in the next five years, what he does know is that he’s a vampire and he’s not going to age and he’s pretty sure the next five years are going to include that.

He’ll tell anyone that listens that it’s losing his sisters, Shawna and Adrienne are what keeps them going and he’s never put anyone or anything above them, and really he is afraid of losing them. But Nate is also afraid of dying, even more so now than ever. 

When he was a kid and was first cursed by the other witches he knew that he would die eventually, probably sooner than anyone else he knew and Nate liked to pretend that he was okay with that. There was no way to save him so it was something out of his control it was inevitable, but then he turned into a vampire and suddenly he had possibilities he could actually live instead of denying himself like he’d spent his entire life doing.

There was an unspoken language to this all, she didn’t have to bother looking up for him to know she knew that he was the one who came in. If it were anyone else, there would have probably been a sounding of both shock and terror. If Michael had found her, if Michael were still alive she would have received some sort of snark comment. But neither were the case. 

The silence was more than appreciated as much more than the noise of the door opening and footfalls would have brought her out of the trance the flow of blood caused, or the squirming of the still conscious woman. However, by the time he was close enough for her to feel his breath did she stop playing with the nearly deceased woman, and finally give him her attention.
