I saw a few posts referencing this, but I didn't realize it literally got announced earlier today until I went looking. Here is the recall for your viewing pleasure. Never thought I'd see a shrimp recall for radioactive material (Cs-137) contamination, but this is the world we live in.
Summary: The radiation level's low enough to not be an *acute* health concern, but repeated low-dose exposure can increase your chance of developing cancer. The Cs-137 detected was on an incoming shipment from Indonesia (in 1 lot of tested shrimp and the shrimp's shipping container), which was summarily denied entry. All associated lots from that company that are currently in the USA are being recalled.
I'm curious whether the shrimp were farm-grown or wild-caught. Both have terrible implications for very different reasons. (Where/how/when did they get exposed to radioactive material? And how many humans have been similarly exposed?)
