“it seems like not too long ago i was mending this eye in a gas station bathroom,” rachel hums, her fingers gently pressing the bag of frozen peas to his head. her other hand is delicate as it cradles his jaw to make sure, despite his flinching, that she could apply the cold bad with pressure properly to help ease the swelling. her thoughts flitter around the events in question, finding him soaked in sweat and missing an eye. her sweet artist boy from beaver creek, hardened and inconceivably wiser. there’s a sadness that passes over her expression before placing herself in his lap.
she had stopped by on her lunch break, content with now sitting in her boyfriends lap in his office at the garage.
“you should be more careful of your head, then again, i probably shouldn’t have surprised you like that when you were working under the car,” she shrugs her shoulders before pressing her lips to his cheek, “forgive me?”

happy happy birthday to my amazing girlfriend @manicpower / @racismlost ! im incredibly thankful and in debt to whatever higher power brought you into my life a few years ago. my rachel would never be the same without your amazing writing and characterization. you’re truly one of the most talented writers i know and you inspire me to continue learning and to be better. you brighten my day everyday.
palms pressed against his cheeks in a mock attempt to look like the cliche image of a surprised girl would when her boyfriend finally popped the question. if the sudden high pitch to his voice was any indicator? that was definitely what he was playing into. finn leaned closer to wrap his fingers around sean’s wrist and gently yank him up.
“you should have waited until we’re all, like, rich though.”
a noise of confusion built up in his throat as eyebrows drew together. warren had to stop himself from jerking away from the touch as soon as his brain seemed to process it. but he had been too surprised at first to do much of anything. confusion slowly took the place of surprise as the brunette took a moment to glance over his friend’s face - watching curiously as sean eyed his features and took in details.
“what’re you doing? are you gonna draw me or something?”
' my guess is off-brand superheroes. ' @ warren c:
“they’re totally off-brand superheroes.” warren’s voice came from the floor beside sean’s bed when he had sprawled out, phone held up above his face. a sure-fire way to guarantee that sometime in the next five to ten minutes, the one would slip and hit him in the face. “they ripped off like every single mainstream superhero - even some of the dumbass ones that comic books like to hide.”

33 talking about the relationship ( how i feel with you, how i feel about this relationship )
Rachel rubbed her sweaty palms on her jeans. She’s aware of the way the breeze rustles past her, blowing blonde hair and signature blue feather earring past her shoulder, of how the cooling LA air bit at the bare skin on her arms and most importantly, she’s aware of how much older they were now. It’s strange, she never thought she’d be so nervous when he came back. She dreamt and fantasized about the moment countless times over the past seven years and although the initial excitement, the way she jumped into his arms and hugged him so tight in fear that if she held onto him too loose he’d disappear again or how she pressed her forehead against his while tears freely slipped down her face was in line with what she thought about, she never once prepared to feel anxious.
Still, she finds herself peeking glances at him in fears that suddenly he would disappear from her side out on the balcony of her downtown LA apartment and that maybe the promise she made seven years ago had finally caused her to lose her mind. Hazel eyes linger on his form longer than the few seconds she was allowing previously and once she was sure that he wasn’t going to fade away with the blink of an eye, she finally parts her lips to talk.
“It’s been seven years,” She states the obvious, pressing her lips hard into a line between each sentence in fears that her bottom lip would start to quiver, “Around year five I started believing that you were dead, or at the very least forgot about me. I mourned you.”
It’s hard to speak that truth out loud, admitting to nights of crying and being ashamed for letting her heart be broken over a promise she made as a teenager and how guilty she felt every time she thought about moving on, but she does. She speaks softly, stopping momentarily when she could hear the way her voice wavered until she had a handle on herself again.
She reaches across from her, grabbing the pack of cigarettes from the patio table and flicking the container open to pull a cigarette from inside. She hands the case to Sean, grabbing the decorative Leo designed lighter from the table and setting the end of the cigarette ablaze. Rachel takes a deep pull before taking it between two fingers, holding the smoke in for a few moments and then exhaling.
“When you called it was like talking to a ghost,” Rachel’s looking out at the night sky now, watching as the smoke from her cigarette curls and dances in the air. “Not just of you, but a ghost from the past that I had just started to bury.”
She lets the sentence hang in the air, taking another pull from her cigarette before bringing herself to look at him again. He was a sight for sore eyes, so incredibly handsome with skin that was kissed by the sun. Rachel pulls a leg up onto the edge of her seat, leaning her back into the chair as she flicks the as away into the ash tray sitting on the table. “I’m not saying all of this to make you feel bad, when we made that promise you told me what the outcomes could be. I knew that you had things you had to handle on your own and you needed to get Daniel somewhere safe.”
Rachel reaches her free hand over to him, passing over the two chairs and intertwining her fingers with his. “I was never the type of girl to wait, but I waited for you. Even when I thought you weren’t ever coming back, I was still waiting. I wanted to believe that you were out there somewhere, thinking about that girl from Beaver Creek when you were sixteen.”
There’s a pause and she can feel the way a smile forces itself to tug at the corner of her lips. “And now you’re here and it feels better than anything I could have imagined. Every day that I waited wasn’t a waste, I never thought that. You deserved someone good, someone better than me. I’m a selfish person, I take and hardly give, I’ve spread rumors and lied and tried to further my career by tearing down others but despite all of those flaws, you wanted it to be me that waited. I would never want to let you down.”
Rachel gently squeezes his hand, hazel eyes misty as she looks over at him and starts taking in this image of him and burning it to memory. “What I’m saying is I’m not perfect, but I would wait a lifetime for you. You deserved that, at the very least from me.”
