Last night, as usual, I cleaned my rabbits' room, fed them and groomed them. I always pet them while grooming so they won't be that stressed with the process and as I was grooming Aya, I happen to touch her side tummy and I felt two bumps. I paused and took my time to think. I was like, "Are these bumps baby heads or just poops?". I left them as usual but I already had the strong feeling that Aya is pregnant despite having Kosuke neutered last August 30 because there were several incidents before and after that date. I tried tracking back and counting on my calendar her possible labor date last night. And then, the next morning when I woke up, I found Aya's floor stained with blood. I panicked because I know I oeft her in good health last night, she was eating so well and well-behaved when I was grooming her. Then I inspected her pen and looked closely at her litter box and there, I found these 7 little babies! π³π
She laid them on her litter box. Thank God I just cleaned and changed their litter box last night so the bedding and hay are all clean and fresh. There wasn't any signs really that Aya was pregnant aside from her incresse in appetite. There wasn't any hair pulling until last night and the hair she pulled wasn't that thick. I don't know what that means but hopefully it doesn't signify like she doesn't care for her kits. As per aggression during pregnancy, actually, she was only aggressive once which was right on the mating incident day on Aug. 22, 2021.
That means, Kosuke and Aya apparently were able to successfully mate a week before Kosuke got neutered. So when I had Aya go through an ultrasound, we weren't able to see anything yet because it was still so early on the pregnancy stage. Glad that I am monitoring and noting on my calendar these little things about my rabbits, it really helps me a lot 'coz I tend to forget things easier lately.
After cleaning Aya's pen, I transferred the kits to a different litter box which was Kosuke & Aya's old litter box when they were about 3-4months old. I kind of felt honored somehow that Aya trusted me when I took her litter box to transfer kits. Like she didn't mind me holding them and she was also very calm with me being inside her pen just as soon as she gave birth. I wasn't really able to prepare anything for Aya's delivery. Last night, when I suspected that Aya's pregnant, I kind of already prepared myself at the possibility of additional kits. It can't be helped, I just really have to deal with it. Gotta give them the best I could to keep them healthy until they're weaned and find them a new loving home. And then when circumstances permit, I'll get Aya fixed as soon as possible.
Look at Aya, she's like aproud mom π You did well my girl! ππππ€ππ°β¨
