I never really talked about my trip on my blog, but nearly every night before I go to bed I go through the photos from my trip to South Africa. I played in the Indian ocean, danced in a jazz lounge, climbed a church tower, and saw a pride of lions up close, but nothing compares to the day we spent in Nelson Mandela's home, Qunu, sliding down the rocks and watching the stars. I'm still in awe of everything this trip has given me.

Mr Mandela had often said he hoped to die in Qunu, the village where he grew up and which he said held his happiest memories, but he was airlifted to Johannesburg last year for medical treatment, and never made it back. (Read more...)

A few more pictures of Mandela's ancestral home in Qunu, South Africa. The villagers felt a bit left alone as they could not take part of the official celebrations before the burial. Some were dancing in front of Matiba's house while others were staying home or gathering near the giant screens.
