From the Quint Archives this #TBT: Peter Alexander’s solo exhibition, PERCEPTION OF DESIRE exhibited at the gallery in 2013. Peter Alexander, a pioneer in the Light and Space movement, has experimented with cast polyester resin since the late 1960s. His works explore the material’s unique ability to simultaneously contain and reflect light. This exhibition featured wall-mounted resin works, as well as a series of related drawings. The square, wall-mounted resin sculptures have a fathomless density at their centers, and appear to evaporate at the edges as the saturation of color pigment shifts. #PeterAlexander #PerceptionofDesire #LightandSpacemovement #TBT #QuintArchives (at Quint Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsvnQJdl6eg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1gfa8iwkw1wke
From the #QuintArchives, from Roman de Salvo's exhibition at the gallery, Split, Splice, Splay, Display, September 17th - October 17th, 2009. Pulling from the structure and maze forms created in his previous conduit works, this body of work explores de Salvo’s fascination with wood and the natural patterns found in its structure. As with the Tinkertoy-like approach to building the conduit works, the branch works are systematic constructions. But unlike the conduit works, the branch works are not comprised of pieces that were designed to fit together. The painstaking fitting- together of these works is a negotiation of the fluid contours of their organic parts with network patterns and the artist's system of joinery. // #RomandeSalvo, Loquat, 2009, Loquat branches, poplar, glue, Penofin, brass hinges, 23-3/4" x 36" (at Quint Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqz6zGLFnrT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=jk9zjpeq2kya

From the Quint Archives: Installation views of Marcos Ramirez ERRE's exhibition at the gallery in 2002, Garden of Angels/Jardin de Angeles at the gallery. SCROLL FOR INSTALLATION VIEWS! The exhibition furthered the Tijuana-based artist’s interest in the notion of borders and concentrates on a special section of a Tijuana cemetery that is devoted entirely to children, an area the artist calls a “Garden of Angels.” Ramirez photographed the installations set up around the graves of the “little angels," or angelitos, because these sites reveal an interesting hybridization of Mexican and global cultures. Stay tuned for more information on his exhibition opening Saturday, July 28th! #QuintArchives #MarcosRamirezERRE #gardenofangels #mexicanartist #tijuana #borders #angelitos #Mexico (at Quint Gallery)
