⠀➤ As a brief overview.

Crystal and Pietro fell in love when Pietro was hurt after battling Sentinels, and saved by her and she fell in love with an unconscious Pietro who was her first contact with a man outside of her incestuous and obsessively cult like Inhuman family. For Pietro it was finally someone not knowing Magneto is his father and not seeing the problem he is. Finally being accepted and cared for and someone actually being curious about him and not him as the son of Magneto. After brief courting, they started dating (she was still dating Johnny btw and she later insulted Johnny for having a fling with Medusa years later while they were literally not dating)

She eventually became the mother of Luna.

(Fantastic Four Annual #21) During their dating, it was very flames on and immediately flames off at the nearest sign of struggle. Young teenager love fickle and passing essentially. Furthermore, Quicksilver was essentially "mind controlled" for a majority by Maximus the Mad ( THE WRITER ENGLEHART FUCKING HATED PIETRO PUBLICLY. Also keep this in mind), an evil Inhuman which made him act out and full of temper (here are signs of Pietro abusing Crystal WHILE being mind controlled and not sane) (He was later also mind controlled again by moondragon). Unsatisfied, Crystal left Pietro and in the short time cheated with Norman Webster and then also tried to, again, cheat on him with Johnny Storm, which she could not as he was by then already married, but she certainly tried.

But they kept dating for the sake of their daughter, somewhat reconciling, and trying to make it work. One major factor in their problems were the extremely racist parents (somewhat incest nxzi coded too) of Crystal which repeatedly put Pietro down and describe him as being inferior, less of blood and not good enough for their daughter while Crystal has stupid arguments to defend Pietro without denying the actual insults. Later plot lines of the terrigen mists also mix into their hatred towards Pietro but was just them finding reasons.

(Avengers #375-...) Over the course of them dating, Pietro was still a hero and acted on his duties and tried to make time as he could. Mind you, he is a volatile character with mood swings and issues and mistakes of course. But during his absences, time on, off, still married, Crystal did not cheat on him once. Not twice. Not three times but FIVE TIMES. When he joined up with the Avengers again, and mind you, so did Crystal, she attempted and did cheat on Pietro again with Dane Withman (Black Knight) who was also pursuing a relationship with Sersi at the same time. When Pietro revived the Knights of Wundagore, working on himself, to be better and a hero, caring for Crystal while doing his duties, Dane and him fought over Crystal which caused Crystal to abandon Pietro as she could not choose him over or Dane. Again. Later during Silent War, the Inhumans hunted Quicksilver and beat the shit out of him for his betrayal (Terrigen Mists) and because of the annulled marriage (which Crystal did because Luna chose her dad/Pietro took her) which is against their laws.

(X-Factor #87-89 roughly) During a weekend getaway where Pietro takes time to take care of her and reconcile their relationship, Pietro puts an effort into it while Crystal, already knowing she is with another man on the side, engages in it. Pietro tries to tell her he is seeing someone to get better and Crystal proceeds to have a crash out (about Pietro dating Polaris btw) that he is cheating on her but softens when discovering it's a man and Pietro might be gay? Only to find out it's a therapist. Duh.

Then Pietro is confronted with Crystal seeing another man on the side by pictures taken by paparazzi in public. He asks Crystal about it which ensues into a tirade of how it is his fault because he left her alone and he is the problem and how dare him ever blame her. She would never do such a thing and he should never demand that she not see other men while they are married. She sulks and ignores and guilt trips him until their trip ends because she wants to stop their marriage now (before she of course also has an affair with Ronan the Accuser, who btw kidnapped her entire species and tried to exterminate humanity but anyway-- Pietro is evil and all).

After the marriage, Crystal ensures to get Luna and pretty much full custody. (Besides the fact that the Inhumans literally don't accept Luna because she is mixed blood and they are, again, frigging racist. But the history of the Terrigen Mists does give a valid background to this.) Pietro only rarely sees Luna in the comics. But because Crystal is busy with her men (Ronan), she actually takes Luna for herself and puts her into a boarding school in England. Where she stays. With. Pretty much no family contact and Pietro pays for everything. (This was later basically retconned by saying Luna is in space with her mom but there is no explanation whatsoever of where, what how, they have been MIA ever since)

⠀➤ 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀

Crystal repeatedly exhibits behaviour of being insulted when someone confronts her with her acts such as infidelity. Like its everybody else's fault, never her own, she could not do it any differently. She apologises later for her mistakes ... only to repeat the action IMMEDIATELY after. When she seduced Pietro (she full on love bombed him tbh but Pietro takes what he gets), she was still dating Johnny and tried to gaslight the man into thinking he was an asshole for not being thrilled about it. Later when Johnny had the fling with Medua, Crystal described him as a "slut".

She shifts blame, tries to gaslight everyone when she makes a mistake, is a huge hypocrite, a serial cheater with the biggest narcisstic strike. She makes Pietro inherently emotionally dependent, leading him on while trying NOTHING herself to help their relationship. She pulls away, gives him something, pulls away again and emotionally isolates him (Love-Bombing → Withdrawal Cycle, silent treatment), makes wild rationalisations against him, blaming everything on him constantly (refuses to engage with the facts, or even the conversation at all, extreme guilt-tripping). As a consequence, he no longer trusts himself around women, isolated and his arc of hero and being better drops pretty quick. He was emotionally invalidated and given the belief he cannot perceive relationships at all, eroding his ability to trust his emotions (also he was mind controlled) to the point he will belief he is the evil Crystal describes and he should be fine with her cheating for the 39594594x time. This is followed by her family being a looming authority over him that pressure him (triangulation) as the inferior one, to be lucky to be allowed to be with Crystal, accompanied by insults and verbal abuse, later physical. Crystal literally commits parental gatekeeping even in an age where Pietro changed, his daughter likes him and he is a hero with a better future.

After Pietro was no longer Magneto's son, he is more free, changed and pursues non-abusive and dependent relationships. (His stories have always been laced with themes of madness, abuse, manipulation followed by eras full of him being used as nothing but plot device before being tossed again.) Luna even wants to live with Pietro at one point, but Crystal resists. This is a recurring narrative of emotional abandonment under the guise of doing what’s "best" for the child followed by entire smear campaigns against him where he is vilified for everything (mind you, not necessary most of the time given his history with the Terrigen Mists and House of M. He was already suicidal). He truly loves his daughter and wishes to care for her. He is internalising the "evil" narrative, does not trust any woman to love him ever, constantly self-sabotaging on the daily (X-Factor repeatedly, Hypervigilance and Fear Around Intimacy, isolation, loneliness, attachment injuries)
