Fitness Upgrade: 5 Quick Workouts for A Busy Day (or Life)
One of my biggest goals is to get into a healthy fitness routine. I've blogged about this topic often (here and here for example), because it's something I've struggled with my whole life...my goal is not to just go on a workout streak/crash diet to lose a bunch of weight. I want to change my LIFESTYLE to become healthy and fit/tone. I want to live a healthy example for Miles so it's second nature for him to live the same lifestyle as he grows up.
I think a major reason I've struggled with this is because I (just like every other human in the world) am busy, and I've never understood how to fit exercise into my day. I've finally realized that instead of trying to carve out an hour to workout every day, I have to find an exercise plan that fits into my >tight< timeline. So I've started looking for quick but effective workouts that will get me moving without taking up too much of my day.
Today I will share with you some of my favorite QUICKIE workouts that you can cram into a busy lifestyle. These workouts are short but that doesn't mean they aren't effective. SOMETHING IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN NOTHING! (That is my daily mantra!)
HIIT Treadmill Routine (for Beginners)
This is my own personal treadmill workout that I adapted from a routine I found in Fitness Magazine a few years ago. I started with their routine and slowly made it more challenging for myself as I became stronger. [You can find both of the routines here]
One-Song Workouts
Nothing motivates me more than music. The right beat can take my energy level from 0 to 60, so these One-Song Workouts from Back On Pointe are...well...right on point! :) You can do these all at once, or spread them out throughout the day (one in the morning to get your blood pumping, one post-lunch when you're drowsy, and one to help you burn off your dinner)!
10 Days to 100 Squats Challenge
I'm currently on Day 5 of this squat challenge from Body Rock TV, and I LOVE it. I do my daily squats whenever the motivation hits: In my kitchen while I wait for my coffee to brew, before a shower, or even before bed. The beauty of this challenge is that it's SUPER quick and can be done anywhere. And it's effective. I felt the burn in my bum, lower back, and thighs after day 4! [Find the full workout here]
100 Calorie Burn
This 100 Calorie Burn workout from GetHealthyU.com is a great way to burn 100 calories fast. This is another workout that can be done anytime, anywhere, and it targets your whole body! Do this workout a few times throughout the day and burn 100s of calories, all when it's convenient for you!
Happy Planksgiving November Challenge
I'll admit, my midsection is my problem area. And I hate DESPISE sit-ups. (Probably WHY it's a problem area!) Planks, on the other hand, I can do. DailyHIIT.com has created this fabulous plank challenge for November, along with a free printable calendar to help you keep track as we approach the holidays. I'm going to do it! Who wants to join me? WHO'S COMING WITH ME?! ;) [Get the calendar and more instructions here]
