Unwell - Matchbox Twenty

Sam’s gentle touch never ceased to bring Pietro out of whatever funk he’d worked himself into.  It was never intrusive.  Never forced upon him.  Just a gentle reminder that Sam was there.  

Pietro sniffed and reached over to cover Sam’s hand with his own.  “Sorry. I was just…”

“Disassociating...it’s okay.  Rough day?”  

“Abandoned for the holidays?”

Pietro looked up from his lunch, and scowled at the Slytherin in front of him. “Away with you, little bird. I have no time for you.”

Sam sat down next to Pietro, pulling a plate towards him. “Hey, I didn’t mean anything by it. You know me.”

Pietro sighed, pointing at Sam with his fork. “You hear where Wanda is?” When Sam shook his head, Pietro continued. “She got invited to go on a lovely winter escape with some friends. ‘I’m sorry Pietro’,” Pietro put on an imitation of Wanda’s voice; Sam tried to hold in his laughter. “‘This is a wonderful experience Pietro. Don’t have too much fun without me Pietro’. I’m not sad she’s gone away,” Pietro looked down at his lunch, frowning at it. “It is just the first time we have ever been apart. It is weird.”

Sam chewed on an apple, looking at Pietro contemplatively. “Do you want an adventure?”

Pietro looked up, frown on his face. “Pardon?”

“Adventure,” Sam repeated, gesturing with his apple. “I’m going home for the holidays, leaving in a couple of hours in fact. Would you like to join me?”

“What would your parents think of me?”

Sam waved a hand. “Not a problem, they’ve been wanting to meet you for a while now.”

“Why?”

Sam froze, eyes widening as he remembered what he said. “Uh, so I may have been telling them about this amazing guy I know.”

Pietro smiled, leaning forward on the table. “Amazing, huh?”

Sam pushed Pietro’s head back, smiling too. “Don’t let it go to your head. So, want to come meet my family?”
