ANOTHER sm i wrote for televoid a while back but never posted… oh well
- YOU find an OLD TV in your attic that does not seem to work. the DIALS do not TURN. it cannot be PLUGGED IN to any OUTLETS. it is a squat, ugly thing, clearly rejected from days gone by. what do you do?
> LEAVE IT ALONE
- YOU LEAVE IT ALONE. it’s getting dark outside, anyway. maybe it is best to retire for the night. what do you do?
> SLEEP
- YOU go to SLEEP. in the dead of night, YOU are awoken by strange bursts of noise coming from the OLD TV. static flickers across the screen, morphing and twisting to form the face of a MAN. he seems to be in distress, and his hands are pressed desperately against the screen. it looks like he is calling to you. what do you do?

sm for televoid ian that i got the urge to write it’s kinda poem-y or sm
there is nothing. there is nothing. there is nothing.
there will always be nothing, the somethings say, static dripping from their gaping maws. there will always be nothing. look away when you see us, and there will be nothing still.
there is nothing. there is nothing. there is… nothing?
a flash of light, so brief and yet so enticing, spreading warmth through your whole body and making that weary head of yours spin. for so long, nothing. now, for a second, there is something. you drop the cards they gave you. they don’t like that.
there is something. there is something… there is something!
watch out. the gap in the shows is a different reality. you reach for it, quickly, desperately. the door to other dimensions is open. the fragile bird’s-ribs hollow-bones in your chest creak as you move, a warning that you cannot listen to. the only you is you. for just a second, there is something.
there is something. there… is something. there is…
when you can breathe again, the deafening echoes of things you no longer understand fading from your ringing ears, there is nothing. there has always been nothing. you don’t know what you were thinking. are you sure the only you is you? nothing’s there.
things you said prompts / things you said when you were holding my hand.
1. the city lights, she is certain, don’t shine as bright as him. they are poor imitations, facsimiles of stars that couldn’t hope to outdo the wonder in his eyes.Â
as their fingers intertwine, their steps fall in unison – she remembers reading somewhere that this is a symbol of possessiveness, of companionship; this person is my person, and we are together. the thought makes her smile.Â
he’s looking away from her, pointing out one of his favourite places in the little city by their school with his free hand, and eli both listens and takes notes – after all he does for her, materialistic or not, it only makes sense she will take him back to this very spot at some point in the future.
luke turns back to her, face alight with passion and joy, mouth upturned in the smile that she sees so often in the stars, and questions her attention span, laughing in the face of her indignation. it is now she decides to throw caution to the wind, speak her mind instead of playing safe.Â
“i’m in love with you,” she says, confident and sincere, and he is so blown away that he stops in the middle of the street to pick her up by the waist and press their lips together, as if sealing that promise.
2. one hand white knuckled around her luggage, the other hanging onto his for dear life, eli chews her cheek, watching the endless list of flights scroll by, as if they could have possibly missed theirs. luke watches her face with a slight frown, leaning to press a kiss to her nose. she jumps.
“we don’t have to do this,” he says, as if he could simply return his plane ticket, no harm done, and eli recoils.
“no! no, i want you to come. dad’ll love you. i -- yeah. you’re wonderful. you’re... everything.” it seemed for a moment like she was going to add, but that one word seemed satisfactory enough, and she locks their eye contact in that way she has, the way that makes him feel as if he’s being x-rayed and liquidised at the same time.
“then why are you worried?” he counters, drawing their clasped hands closer to him, bringing her along. their foreheads connect softly, and eli closes her eyes to regain her composure.
“i -” she stops, if only to kiss the corner of his mouth, very nearly his cheek. “where i come from means a lot to me. i want you to like it, because you mean a lot to me.”
luke nods, brow furrowed just slightly, a telltale sign that he has begun to think. “if you care about it, i care about it -- because i care about you.”
eli smiles, small but earnest, and stands quickly, pulling him up with her. “come on, then -- we’re boarding. i’m going home!”
he delays their progress for only a second longer to press a kiss to her hand. “we’re going home.”
things you said prompts / things you said but not out loud. this one is slightly different because i got an idea and ran with it I apologise
1. ian likes to think he’s smart.Â
he does well in class, gets the one over on most of his friends when they argue, and he’s been told that his mind is sharp as a double edged sword, but he cannot for the life of him understand sign language. it’s an annoyance, one that he wouldn’t even know about had it not been for lev, and so ian deems it his fault and sets out to ask him to correct this wrong.
the lunch when ian decides to ask for this tutoring is spaghetti. with a gleam in his eye that’s lesser seen and a spoon in his hand, he sets his tray down next to levi, who winces. ian notices, and smiles.Â
“i wanted to ask you something,” he says, and levi reacts by scrunching up his face, glasses slightly askew.Â
“if it’s about my allergies, i have a list.”this makes him laugh, a good and hearty one that seems to take levi by surprise long enough to stop him glancing at the spoon in ian’s hand.Â
“no, i wanted you to teach me sign language.”Â
“oh, golly,” levi says, his hands meeting and twisting over his plastic tray. he makes eye contact with a brunette girl across the room – eli, whom ian waves to – and she abruptly turns on her heel, surprising alex and asa and abandoning her friend in his time of need.Â
“i’m kind of busy, but i could maybe fit you in? i do a bunch of extra curriculars.”Â
ian nods, his cutlery making soft clinks on his plate as it cuts through his pasta. “sure. i don’t mind whenever. i just want to learn.”Â
he’s too busy wrestling with his food to notice that levi has been doing a tiny version of one phrase over and over with his twitching hands: “heart-flutter heart-flutter heart-flutter.”
2. the first lesson is, in layman’s terms, an ordeal. ian, however talented at other subjects he is, can’t seem to get the basic hand shapes down, and when he does, he gets them in the wrong order. there’s a look of pain on levi’s face so real ian isn’t sure if he should be ashamed or amused -- that is, until lev reaches forward to take his wrists, a little too sincerely to be considered gentle.
it’s the only way ian ever wants to be touched again.
his shoulders fall limp as soon as it happens, and levi’s mouth is moving, but no sound is reaching ian’s ears -- he simply blinks, dumbfounded at how quickly he has been won over. levi’s hands sculpt his into something wonderful ( a simple hello, now that he thinks about it ) and ian nods, a small and close-lipped smile coming over his face. “right, i - i get it now.”
“finally,” levi sighs, puffing his hair from his eyes, and ian takes that as his cue to laugh, throw his head back and really go for it. levi is taken aback for a few seconds, so severely that his arm jerks away and he hits his elbow on the side of the desk.
the laugh says it all, really; this is open, and i am happy here.
when ian re-enters his room that night, luke’s teasing voice doesn’t give him a second’s peace, but he barely notices. his fingers flutter over and over again, a dedication to muscle memory. hello, hello, hello.
I wake up thinking of you as the best, as the sunflower that brightens up my day. Your smile, your laugh, your crazy stories--you just don't know. I watch your face as you tell things that don't even make sense; I focus not on what you're saying but on your expressions of joy, horror, and sadness. Everyday I fall and fall for you but no way I could have you.
