Quasimodo braced himself as he was pushed to the       ground. Again. The students laughed as he struggled       to get to his feet, his mis-made and heavy form always       making that a challenge, when yet another spell sent       him crashing forward.

For several minutes a young priest had been listening to the comments of the women and the pronouncements of the protonotary. His face was severe, his forehead broad, and his eyes penetrating. He pushed his way silently through the crowd, examined the "little sorcerer," and stretched his hand over him. It was time, for all the pious ladies were already licking their lips in anticipation of the fine flaming faggot. "I'll adopt that child," said the priest. He wrapped it in his cassock and carried it away. The bystanders looked after him with horror.

      Today was the day. The day she had been dreaming of her entire life. As a child she had whispered her secret desire into his ear, and as they both grew, every year they watched the floating lights together. This time it was different. They weren't watching from the outside anymore. This was real. 

      Rapunzel's joy was infectious, as it always had been. And he wanted to share in it, because this world outside their tower was remarkable in ways he couldn't imagine. People of all shapes and sizes, animals of all kinds, bright colors and delicious smells and beautiful sounds. He was as awestruck as she was when she grabbed him by the hand, like she always used to, and propelled them both forward into this new world. 

      But while the strangers looked at Rapunzel with amusement or kind laughter, their looks turned sour when they turned their gaze towards him. The words Mother had told him over and over again rung in his mind, and maybe they were true. Maybe he didn't belong out there. Maybe he didn't deserve to.

      "Rapunzel," he said, stopping in his tracks and looking down. He felt their eyes on him. He was shaking like he would after Mother reprimanded him, his throat dry and tight. "Maybe...maybe you should go see the lights without me this time."

If we are writing a thread where your character is meeting Quasi for the first time, please have your character react the way they accurately would at meeting someone who looks like him!! Even the nicest characters in the world would be at least surprised seeing him for the first time. Even if your character expresses it internally, please don't ever be worried about your character accurately reacting to the way Quasi looks!!
