Have you ever taken a look at the ratio between your requested manuscripts and rejected manuscripts (of those you requested)? You know what the industry average is?
I really can’t say what the industry average is because I don’t know how many full manuscripts other agents request. Some agents only take query letters during the submission phase and may therefore request a higher percentage of manuscripts because they haven’t seen any of the author’s actual writing yet. On the other hand, maybe not; it really varies. Agents who are just starting out or who have assistants may request more fulls than agents who already have a very full client roster and limited time for new projects. So the ratio of requested fulls to actual clients signed may be dramatically different across the board.
