In Catholic, Anglo-Catholic and Lutheran traditions, there are books of liturgy, which help in the preparation of worship services. Â Many people serve as lay and ordained worship leaders in faith traditions that do not have prayer books. Â Sometimes, the process of writing liturgy flows, quickly, effortlessly. Â Other weeks, the liturgy is painfully challenging. Â Queering Lent is a book that has a poem for liturgy for each day of Lent (not including Sundays) and for Easter. Â The book also has a short Easter reflection.
There are very few religious books that I find breathtaking; Queering Lent is one of those books.  Slats’ powerful poems range from insightful, to moving.  For those preparing Lent services, Queering Lent is a resource that can help people find creative ways to express moving themes in Lent.  People working in a multi-faith setting may find that the 42 poems will help explain some of the meanings that Christians and non-Christians can find in Lent.
