Welcome to the final day of the Crimson Book Tour with @viragopress! I am so excited to show off this book⦠it is unlike anything I have read this year. Or last year, for that matter! Originally published as āHomo Sapiennesā in 2014, this Greenlandic translated story is SO UNUSUAL but I absolutely loved it! Split into five sections, following five young people, Crimson by @niviaqkorneliussen explores sexuality and gender in the town of Nuuk, Greenland. The intersecting stories, double back and forward over time, layering the experiences of each of the characters. . Korneliussenās portrayal of Greenland is fascinating; she has evoked a deep sense of claustrophobia, as well as a bitterness and anger directed at the nation, and its Danish colonisers. Each of the five characters are stifled in some way, either sexually or by their gender; Korneliussen explores the fluidity of sexuality with characters experiencing unnamed desire, and the damaging nature of internal homophobia and gender dysphoria. I wonder if her portrayal of the Greenlandic LGBT lifestyles is a mirror of the broader Greenlandic one, being disconnected from their true identity. . It is Korneliussenās language that captivated me the most. I donāt usually enjoy stream-of-consciousness writing however there was an ease to it, a pattern, or flow, that carried me past my struggles. The descriptors were enjoyable - one characters hair was āstill partyingā the morning after - and what a fabulous image that conjures! I especially liked the way music references are woven though the book, along with the lyrical writing, creating a filmic quality, as if the book had its own soundtrack! I cannot recommend this book enough - a really, really fantastic read! . #crimson #greenland #queerfic #bookworm #bibliophile #bookish #fullybooked #booklife #booksbooksbooks #booklover #bookgeek #booknerd #lovebooks #instabooks #rainbowlife #bookreview #bookblogger #booknerdigans #booksofinstagram #bookaholic #diversereads #diversity #lgbt #pridereads #lgbtq #bookreview #queerlit #translation #morningafter (at Liverpool) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp4HlzdHJE7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=jcn9rfdx1tm
