today, i was chatting mindlessly with my friends in the cramped cafeteria during break as usual when a guy had just crept up next to me. he was a little shorter than me, round figure and with short black hair, and seemed a little flustered (yet brave) as he inquired if he could ask me a question. i try to be at my kindest to strangers, so i did not hesitate to accept his request.

he spoke to me about one of his friends, and how she's attracted to people with beards. this set off some stress signals already, like his words were breaking into the offshore house that is my romantic seclusion. 

he swiftly came to his point, asking me if i would accept like the beard lover's phone number. i audibly hesitated, stating that i was truly flattered (which i was), which he followed by a "so you're not interested..?" i hastened to correct him; even though i didn't know what i was getting into and i'm not likely to like anyone who would make such a bold move based solely on looks, and told him that no, it's fine (perhaps against my better judgement). my friends had been chuckling all the way through, and it was only getting loader as the conversation went on.

on my phone i followed along to the digits of her phone number, dictated to me by the kid, known to be now as bringer of swooping events. he told me her name was jasmijn, thanked me for my cooperation, and returned to wherever it was he came from.

i quickly exchanged some words with another girl from the group of co-students that the bringer of swooping events and (presumably) the beardophile came from. she told me to make sure to send the mystery girl a text, and i went on to joke around with my friends about the ordeal, still shaken by the event.

so now i'm looking at an unknown number in my contact list, not quite sure what to do.
