it's hard for white people to say hello in poc :(
This is probably the worst ive seen so far with my own two eyes outside of jokes.
āpoc charactersā or variations of it are terrible and i hate them, but i get the idea behind it. they could just write characters of color, but poc has become this terrible lazy shorthand. but i get it, even if i hate it.
poc language is just nonsense. theres no way to make it make sense.
ālanguage of colorā is not a thing. i dont fuggin speak a language of color or a poc language.
there are so many goddamn things wrong with that phrase, holy christ.
for a lot of us brown folk, those languages originally were forced on us by colonial scum, so to turn around and talk about how its a āpoc languageā both overly complicates and overly simplifies the discussion of these languages.
i know they meantĀ ālanguages spoken by people of colorā but even that sounds terrible. different countries have different histories.
the histories of languages like mandarin spoken in china dont match up to the histories of languages like french and spanish spoken in the caribbean. its a wildly inappropriate thing to combine together.
and i GET the tweet. second generation children of immigrants get shit on for not speaking their mother languages. that is a problem and that is a good discussion to have.
but to boil it all down toĀ āpoc languageā is so goddamn dismissive and so homogenizing of so many different people, that it just infuriates me that its something that i actually read and that ACTUALLY had thousands upon thousands of likes and retweets.
