the big ball of nerves in auto’s stomach wasn’t going to stop him from following the inked needle on his skin. he knew what it meant. and he knew what the dwindling number underneath it meant. after years and years of watching that number fluctuate he was finally going to meet his soulmate. who wouldn’t be exhilarated about meeting the person they were destined to be with - the one person the universe picked out for them? he had been watching his friends meet their soulmates, he watched one of his cousins actually marry hers, and now. it was his turn. any debate over whether he was ready or not was quickly pushed aside. how could he believe in soulmates but not in fate? if today, in the decade old grocery store, was where he was meant to meet them then so be it. the number dropped from twenty feet, down to twelve as he rounded the corner of an aisle, then continued to decrease the further he walked. auto’s eyes didn’t leave his forearm until the number read five feet. then he stopped and, with a deep breath, looked up. so far all he could see was their back. “so it was finally time,” he commented to get their attention, anxiously waiting for them to turn around.
