i try to go up in weight like every two weeks or so. i’m better about that with some muscle groups than others (i.e. legs are the only ones i am consistently going up in weight)

Oh, yeah, that's where their issues arose. They sent me the class, I read through it once taking notes on how it works so I understood it, then again I went through making notes about balance since it was severely OP compared to any PHB classes. I provided them options for everything I had a problem with (we can do this, or this) and told them if they came in underpowered we would retinker... Then they tried to use existing class abilities to defend their point, but had the rules wrong on those abilities, so when I clarified that if they went by the RAW/RAI for those class abilities I'd be perfectly happy with it, they decided we were 'butting heads too much to have fun' and no longer wanted to join... I told them if they weren't happy playing it like a playtest (which was the first thing I told them about using homebrew at my table, which they said they were fine with) I'd be happy working with them on something official, but they stopped responding lmaoHonestly I wouldn't care so much, but it's one of my best friend's new boyfriend, so I want to involve him in things that we do as friends? So I'm wishing I had just said no to homebrew from him entirely. Instead I think saying 'yes, but I may rebalance and get final ruling and it'll be considered playtest material' got his hopes up too much about this OP af class, so when I nerfed it to balance with every other legit class he was overly disappointed. So, lesson learned: Unless I know how someone plays within the rules as written, I shouldn't give them to option to bring homebrew in ;)
