To preface this review, I just want to add that if you somehow haven’t watched this anime yet- Absolutely do!! It’s one of the sweetest most wholesome romcoms you’ll ever see in your life, and I can’t recommend it more!! Now-
ALRIGHT ANIME ADAPTATION, YOU WIN!! YOU WIN!!! I’M SORRY FOR NEARLY EVERY PACING CRITICISM I GAVE Q_Q!!! Wow, what a show! What a story!! What a journey!!! I’m so happy with everything in this episode! Actually moving the confession all the way back here, giving us an anime-original onscreen kiss, giving us a brand new scene of the wedding reception! All so so good!
If I had to still critique a few small things- first, I’m a bit confused that they cut the penultimate chapter. Despite all the flak I hear about it from the fandom, I actually liked the bonus little moral that Rin might be busy with work sometimes but it’s never as bad as you think and she’ll always have time for Eiji, namely during their college years. Second, and this is even more minor, I would’ve sworn Rin’s response to Eiji’s proposal was partly as the personas- maybe the director got it wrong, maybe I got it wrong, who knows?
Sidenote- Kiri stays winning with the anime as they added lines where she says her acting career is taking off too! Sidenote- it was very vaguely hinted at in the manga but with these added scenes did anyone get more of the vibe that she had a crush on Rin and jealousy of Eiji?
Now, back to what I liked! As soon as I saw we were getting no opening to save on time, I knew we were getting something good this week. The animation while still not flawless, was much better than usual- the show seems to still struggle on 4/5ths angles (just like the manga, which made it kinda hard for me to do fanart) and every lingering shot on Rin looked AMAZING. I think the studio knew what they were doing, putting so much extra focus on this finale! The soundtrack was really nice and subtle and the additional scenes were great!
It's been such a wonderful journey following this series along with everyone! Now to pray that we get the full Rin and Eiji version of the opening, a good dub, and hopefully some amazing new series from the mangaka! Just like with Rin and Eiji, the journey is never truly over!!

The summer episode! Fun to finally see Ayaka as predicted last week, and she does a great job gelling with Rin and Eiji’s dynamic. I must say it was pretty smart to compile her appearances here to make the episode feel more focused.
Also I thought they’d adapt and extend all the small water park chapters to take up 2/3rds of this episode, but I’m surprised that the Lazy-chan chapters and all the summer chapters were able to fit in this one episode already. The chapter with Shiro was a surprise to see here since in the manga it takes place much later, around Episode 10 by my estimates. Which means that Episode 10 might potentially have more time to spare for other stuff? I also like that the Lazy-Chan chapters were split up throughout the episode to make the summer feel longer in a way.
Either way, Episode 6 should be an absolute doozy if my estimates are correct. If you’ve been sleeping on the series so far, definitely give it a binge when it drops next week! The pacing may have been rough for the first 3 episodes, but it has absolutely gotten better now and will only keep improving!
My main concern (should I wait for the episode previews before posting these reviews?) is that they could potentially use Episode 6 as a dumping spot for a bunch of extra chapters and postpone the plot stuff to Episode 7 instead. I’m still really excited for what the next few weeks hold, though! I already have stuff planned for my art blog in anticipation!
Finally, we’re at my favorite arc!! I think they did it justice, more or less. It was so great seeing Cheeky and Tsundere chan out in full force! My one wish not just from the arc, but from the series as a whole was to see Cool-chan more involved here, but given how her absence is mentioned in the actual manga, I knew this was just a pipe dream, haha.
I’m impressed that they composed and wrote out the whole Angel Jewel song- it’s pretty cute! Also I love the irony that Rin doesn’t think she can sing well when her VA sings the ending sequence (plus an alternate version of the opening sequence too), plus many other acclaimed songs in her career!
I see they put a lot of effort into the backgrounds this episode- it always blows me away just how well all these different anime can draw the Japanese cityscape when they need to! Though I wish I could say the same about the animation quality- we still have multiple noticeable off-model shots, and the scene of Eiji and Rin playing at the beach is notoriously bad- it’s just a lot of looped 4-frame shots over and over that don’t match up with the voice acting. I bet even some smarter directing could make the scene work better without much extra workload for the animators. It makes me wonder if this show was just given a criminally low budget because this is a low-action romcom. But then other slice-of-life I’ve watched like Squid Girl and especially Komi have crazy good animation, and even less-intensive shows like Takagi still have passable animation. Idunno…
On the brighter side of things, I’d say that similar to previous episodes, the quality does get better in the second half of the episode- and we’re beginning to ramp up into the show’s final arc! Given how this anime has cut some major moments, all I can ask for at this point is that they keep the final-final chapter (manga readers will know the one) fully intact and even extend it! Peeking into the spoilery song titles released soundtrack on Spotify tells us that we’re likely getting it, so fingers crossed!
And finally on the note of the soundtrack, they also have a 1min30s version of the magical girl anime opening our cast was listening to in this episode! You can check it out if you want!

Huh? Why do they keep changing things? First massively altering Rin’s initial confession, then changing the kiss scene, then cutting her real confession?? What the heck is going on?? I tried to explain the changes last week by saying this week would have more faithful content, but I’m kind of at a loss.
Don’t get me wrong, the episode was still fun, and I know anime-onlies will like it, but now I’m really confused and nervous as to what else they’ll cut from the anime in the next few episodes. That’s right, anime-onlies! Despite the credits, we still have 5 more episodes to go!
Wow, this week’s episode flowed really really well! A good choice in adapting and combining chapters to center the theme around Eiji referring to Rin as “Rin” and not just “Nanakura”!
And our first true 3+ chapter arc with the home visit that even had added scenes and exchanges, showing a promising sign of things to come! Seeing Rin actually meet Eiji’s mom for the first time was a very welcome addition and a personal highlight! I also liked our first (and only T_T) look at Yandere-chan, the changes to the gross juice bottle, and our introduction to Megu! This might be my favorite episode so far!
I was sure we’d get Lazy-chan and Ayaka this episode- huh, maybe next week? It’s gotta be before the pool chapters. So happy this series is starting to really ramp up!

Also I thought adding a few scenes where Eiji admires Rin in Episode 1 may have ruined the suspense of whether he likes her or not by the first skit. But looking through forums for this episode, apparently people somehow still think he doesn’t have feelings for her? Idunno, I’m just happy they can still enjoy the show in this ideal mindset!
