The music was like the tide, ebbing and flowing, washing over him and wearing him down to the point where he could hardly concentrate. He would kill Sunyoung later for dragging him here. And if that wasn’t a sobering thought.... Leo hadn’t allowed himself to drink, had gotten out of that much at least with a sharp shake of the head. And then as if that was not enough, he’d had to accompany Sunyoung and Dahee into the sea of people to watch them dance. It hadn’t lasted long. Leo had mumbled an excuse that he could barely remember and gone to find somewhere he could keep an eye on them from a distance.
He leaned against the wall towards the back of the club, the cold surface seeping through his clothes. Closing his eyes seemed like a good idea, but leaning his head back was not. The vibrations coursed through his head, worse than a migraine and he winced.
It didn’t help that he’d been here once before.
Once, and only once. In the flurry of first meeting, somewhere between obsession and fear. Sohyun had not been one for crowds but she’d liked to get lost in them. It hadn’t lasted long: Leo had dragged her away before she’d fallen in too deep. But it was a stark reminder, watching people dance in front of him and seeing her ghost weave in and out of the masses.
Leo ran a hand roughly through his hair, gripping when he thought he might get too caught up in times long past. He’d never asked if she’d frequented this place, never even thought to... He barely noticed someone approaching him, and when he did it was too late to walk away. Well, he’d rather brought this on himself. Someone was bound to notice the one person who looked as though they’d rather not be there.
“Sorry, I’ll...” he began but gave up when his voice was utterly lost to the music. He’d just get his boss and their intern, tell them he had to leave and ask them to accompany him. That was all he could do. Leo stood straight, and made to walk away, leaving his ghosts behind him.
