No less confused, Nie Huaisang nevertheless starts grinding the ink and pours all of his focus into rewriting the passage as neatly as possible. He burns with embarrassment at the fact that he’s doing so with Lan Qiren right there, his quiet presence nearly overwhelming as Nie Huaisang transcribes terms like “tortoise head” and “jade cavern.” Booklets like this shouldn’t even be in the same room as Lan Qiren, who’s probably only seen porn on occasions such as these, when he catches idiots like Nie Huaisang walking around with them or stashing them in their rooms. Nie Huaisang sneaks a glance over his shoulder at Lan Qiren, who is calmly drinking his tea and grading papers. He can’t help but wonder if he has previously punished others like this, as well…

Nie Huaisang is caught with a homemade yellow book of his own creation. His punishment ends up being very different from what he expected.

What are your initial thoughts for the ship? Oooo interesting! Definitely not one I've thought of before. The teacher and his worst (?) student is an interesting vibe. Nie Huaisang repeatedly attending the guest lectures at the Cloud Recesses means he certainly got more exposure to Lan Qiren than the rest of his peers. I wonder what Lan Qiren made of him toward the later part of canon.

What would make this an interesting ship? As I indicated toward the end of my answer to the first question, I would love to see Lan Qiren and Nie Huaisang interacting post-canon. I would absolutely read Nie Huaisang going back to his erstwhile teacher, like, Am I the gentleman you taught me to be? Or have I desecrated your teachings? And then to get as his answer affection rather than condemnation? Tasty.
