Qilimanjaro Tech Expands Quantum-AI Research with Q-AINA
Qilimanjaro Tech
Q-AINA connects AI and quantum computing, advancing European technology. The project “RETECH: Q-AINA: Compression and execution of the AINA model using quantum and quantum-inspired techniques,” studies synergies between these two cutting-edge sectors for reciprocal technological advancement.
Strategic Technology Fusion
Catalan language model optimization is a Q-AINA priority. Developed with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), these models were part of the AINA project, financed by the Secretariat of Digital Policies of Catalonia.
The study uses quantum and quantum-inspired methods to improve these complex linguistic models' execution and compression. This strategy highlights AI's potential as a transversal layer in the expanding Catalan quantum ecosystem to set a standard for how high-performance computing and quantum technologies might help regional languages.
High-Powered Consortium
The project brings together four regional and worldwide AI and quantum leaders. PIMEs Multiverse Computing (MC) and Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech lead the collaboration. Eurecat (EUT) and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) are powerful subcontractors for these partners.
Deep tech skills compliment these people' contributions. Their cooperative “full-stack” method aims to turn quantum-inspired AI into scalable language processing solutions.
Financial and Institutional Support
Q-AINA is part of RETECH, a strategic framework under the Pla de recuperació, transformació i resiliència (PRTR). NextGenerationEU funds the program, emphasizing its importance to European digital sovereignty and technical resilience.
The Quantum Landscape Changes
Q-AINA launches during a busy time for participating companies. Barcelona-based Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech has expanded with several well-known partnerships. The company launched EduQit, a “build-your-own” quantum computer for research and teaching, in 2026 to democratize quantum technology.
Misiones QCare has also investigated quantum technology for healthcare's future. Qilimanjaro announced partnerships with Oxigen Data Center to incorporate quantum devices into commercial data centers and CERN's Open Quantum Institute to expand multimodal quantum computing in late 2025. These alliances show their global expansion.
Why Quantum Language Models Matter
The AINA Catalan language model was strategically chosen for quantum compression testing. NLP model training and inference demand huge computational resources due to exponential development. Quantum-inspired arithmetic in classical algorithms may boost model efficiency without sacrificing accuracy.
The project advances AI technology and protects local language communities by focusing on Catalan. Catalan's digital presence in government's mission is supported.
The Way Forward
The Q-AINA project may enable quantum computing in AI applications. The NextGenerationEU vision suggests that this initiative may lead to new model compression techniques that can be used outside of languages and impact climate modeling, economics, and logistics.
This project for the Catalan ecosystem cements Barcelona's deep technical leadership in Europe. Q-AINA combines the BSC's supercomputing infrastructure with Qilimanjaro and Multiverse Computing's flexibility to demonstrate the power of public-private cooperation in the 21st century.
