Q4A/B/E
The title/opening credits sequence of Psycho was designed by Saul Bass. The industry production stage titles are generally created during is post-production or stage four.
Through representational use of binary opposites, Bass has created a sequence that reflects the split personality of Norman Bates. Black and white lines split the screen into linear sections, the text is sliced and cracked and disjointed creating a sense of distortion, intersection of text and the invading lines, all this coupled with a soundtrack that jumps abruptly from frantic to slow tempo contribute to the concept of being divided and in conflict- as we see Norman Bates is within himself.
